The first group on Tha Reason Records will be West Coasta Nostra, featuring four former gang members of varying affiliations from Seattle, WA and Tucson, AZ- Gangsta Nutt, Rob Rollie, Dirty O (Terry’s brother) and Blue the Vet- who have made peace between themselves and seamlessly meshed to form a hip-hop group.
Fascinating stuff. First of all, how exactly does that go down? One day you just kind of go over to the other gang and be like, “Hey, instead of trying to shoot each other, let’s form a rap group!” “That’s a great idea!” “What should our songs be about?” “Hmmm…how about how we used to try to shoot each other but now we’re forming a rap group?!” “Yeah!”
Secondly, it must be hard enough to have your brother be a multi-millionaire pro baller, but it has to be twice as bad when mom and dad named him Jason and you got stuck with Dirty O. And no, that’s not his rapper name – we checked. The guy’s name is Dirty O Terry, which is awful, because not only is your name Dirty, but everyone thinks you’re Irish.
Anyway, it’s good to see Jason’s not producing, like, basketball rap, because you know he gets that all the time. “Oh, you’re making music? Is it about basketball?”
It’s like when we were going to start working at YAYsports! – we told our friends we were going to be blogging, and since we’re always talking about, playing with, and eating basketballs, they just assume we’re writing a basketball blog, y’know? Like we’re incapable of doing or talking about anything else! So we’re all like – oh.
