There are a couple choice items today in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, including new coach Dwane Casey’s hope that the Timberwolves’
voluntary minicamp next week in Las Vegas will be a good bonding experience. By the way, that’s NBA-speak for LOTS OF STRIPPERS AND GAMBLING.
Moving on. Sam Cassell continues to be himself, littering the paper with shining examples of good sportsmanship.
*They’re going to be at the bottom again.
*I know for a fact that Kevin Garnett is disappointed.
*If they think Marko Jaric is a replacement for me, they’re out of their minds. [Jaric's] not an upgrade. As players, we know.
*Six years? Forty million? Yeah, right. Yeah, right. (re: Jaric’s new contract)
We also learn that what we all assumed was going to happen when this trade broke is now happening: Sam refusing to report for his physical and complaining about wanting a contract extention. From the Clippers. Want or need or whatever, Sam’s going to the Clippers. Why even bring it up? In Spanish, “Los Angeles Clippers” means “perpetually cheap and sucky”.
We’re not saying Sam isn’t good, or that he didn’t help Minnesota in his two years there. All we’re saying is that while 36 might be young on Sam’s homeworld Mobeolocious IX, here in the more delicate Earth atmosphere, the point guard skills begin to erode around 36. At least accept that nobody is going to give you “Marko Jaric money”. (Which is the first and only time anyone will ever use that phrase. Doesn’t Google send us a ribbon or a car or something now?)
