We’re being kind – Bobcats rookie point guard Raymond Felton is insane. Not only that, he’s putting on his insanity as a show for the kids!
“We are going to the playoffs,” Felton told an audience of eighth graders Monday, and he wasn’t talking about some far-off season. He meant next spring.
“Our chances are great,” he said. “We are a great team.”
Last season’s 18-64 record suggests otherwise, but Felton didn’t back off when approached by the Observer after the assembly.
“I didn’t mean to be so bold with it. I know I’m a rookie. But I’m not going to stand for anything less,” he said.
We direct you back to our Bobcats season preview, where a more realistic expectation is presented, provided you read between the lines, like astute reader “JimmyLaker”, who sent us this yesterday:
first of all Bob johnson owns BET not VH1, and he’s African-American not Chinese. then you say they got alot of wins and a long history? idiot, they’re an expansion team! they won 18 games last year! the only thing you got right is that they have a new arena, but then you say May and Felton won’t draw fans? you know that UNC stands for university of NORTH CAROLINA, right? and that Charlotte is in NORTH CAROLINA, right? idiot! you do some funny stuff but I do’t think you know anything about the NBA!
I guess we’ve been told, huh? Getting back to Mr. Felton’s prediction, maybe the Bobcats will make the playoffs. After all, Raymond is an 8-foot tall center with a devastating drop-step. Put that next to slick shooting guard Primoz Brezec and head coach Emeka Okafor, and they just might have something down in Savannah.
