The Gund is not named after an action film from 1996
Published by The Cavalier September 7th, 2005 in Cleveland Cavaliers, Mark Cuban, Dan Gilbert
The Cavaliers and new owner Dan Gilbert have finally reached a tentative agreement with the city on the new designs for the soon-to-be-renamed Gund Arena. Quicken Loans Arena will be the Cavs new court, and it took awhile to get there, previous versions having been described as “very, very ugly” by members of the review committee.
We’re sure it’s beautiful now, as Dan Gilbert can do no wrong, placing him right up there with Mark Cuban on our Favorite NBA Owners List. He did, however, miss out on the chance to name the place Rock Financial Arena (another company of his) and have Sean Connery’s “Welcome to the Rock” line blasted through the entire arena whenever anyone walks into the building.
