With Charlotte Bobcats Arena set to officially open tomorrow, team owner Bob Johnson is talking up the new home of the Bobcats. We get some juicy details into the private life of the BET mogul, including what it’s like having NASCAR star Jeff Gordon as a neighbor.
Q. Do you ever go knock on Jeff Gordon’s door and say, “You wanna have a beer?”I would knock on Jeff’s door and say, “Do you want to have a Patron tequila. That’s Jeff’s drink. That and Red Bull. But I don’t have to knock on Jeff’s door. Jeff’s music is so loud I can just hear it and he’ll come on down. We just leave the doors open. We have a doors-open relationship. You come down to my place, I’ll come up to your place. Somebody’s just gotta have the Patron and the Red Bull.
That’s not the only reference to casual drinking in there, either. Bob offers to have a drink with Joe Six-Pack should he run into him somewhere.
Bob also accidentally gives away what we assume is the greatest, most closely-guarded secret in the entire world: the city of Charlotte has no gravity:
Q. What changes to uptown do you think the arena will inspire?I’ve often talked about downtown Charlotte needing a center of gravity, and I think the arena is going to create that.
Add in those giant lollipops outside the arena, and we say Charlotte kicks major ass.
