We’d say grain alcohol would be a better fit, but Larry Bird is developing a signature wine that should be available sometime in December.
Winery founder Mitch Cosentino said some of the wines will average around $20, while others will sell for between $60 and $70. Cosentino says he was drawn to the idea of combining the hoops legend and fine wines because of the “Larry Legend personality.”
Jill Leone, Bird’s representative, said he will help develop and market the wines.
“When he was retired from the Celtics he dabbled in growing grapes and so he’s had an ongoing interest,” Leone said.
We’re admittedly not from Boston and were pretty young when Larry was in his prime, but what about Larry Bird’s personality says “wine”? And how in god’s name did the man dabble in grapes in French Lick, Indiana?
It’s a real company and everything, with fancy names and crap we don’t understand, which usually tells us it’s pretty classy. We could make a bunch of jokes here about how Boston people would rather have a Mad Dog 33/33 Larry Bird wine, but we’ll hold off. Drink up.
