We have no verification on it, but one look at the LA Times this morning gives us the impression that the LA’s favorite team has agreed to not say anything that could be construed as controversial whatsoever. The good thing is, they’re not very good at it yet and it’s not difficult to read between the lines. Kobe:
“It’s tough right now to gauge where we’re at or where we’re going to be,” Bryant said. “I keep saying it’s a process, but that’s exactly what it is. I feel like if we can please our coaching staff and play the game the right way, we’ll be fine.”
What he’s really saying is “this is worse than I thought it could ever be.” Phil Jackson:
Jackson chooses words carefully when assessing how well the strategy has worked.
“Adequate,” he said. “We’ll find out.”
Translation: “At least I still get to sleep with Jeannie.” Lamar Odom:
“Nobody expects more from Lamar Odom than Lamar Odom. I put a lot of pressure on myself, and I expect a lot from myself.”
“Lamar Odom is high as Lamar Odom has ever been. Lamar Odom loves pot. Lamar Odom Lamar Odom Googlebotpuffs.”
Similarly, the Boston Celtics have a strict new policy in place requiring them to gay-bash. This is our favorite quote, via Doc Rivers:
“The jabs wouldn’t stop,” Rivers said. “And the guy would have to take it. He’d have to understand that it wasn’t personal. The great thing about team sports are the ways these guys can get on each other in the locker room and on the bus rides…[snip]
Maybe they’re not gay-bashing in Boston after all? Would someone just come out already so we can see what happens?
