We feel those Christmas blues creeping in, and when that happens, the only thing to do is go look for a new best friend. What better buddy could there be than NBA Commisioner David Stern, who sat down for a chat with ESPN Sportsnation peoples. (Well, maybe Scottie Pippen would be okay, if you’re Canadian.) While the man didn’t freestyle a bit, he didn’t hold back at all, answering the question of long shorts right out of the gate.

Joe, chicago: What do you have against long shorts?

David Stern: I don’t have anything against long shorts. We just need to define “long” and I don’t think you should turn them into pants or slacks. Because then they wouldn’t be “uniform”, so we settled on within an inch of the knee. We’re not talking about Jerry West or John Stockton shorts. This has been in effect for many years.

Actually, we think they should be slacks, as we said the other day. Why? It’s relatable. Everyone wears slacks, just like everyone eats supper. We like to wear slacks while we eat supper on the davenport, in fact. If we’re not wearing slacks while eating supper on the davenport, we’re probably wearing slacks while shopping for trousers as an alternative to our slacks that we’ll eat supper in on the davenport.

The chat is quite full of good stuff, and the man answers many more questions in classic “this is how it is” fashion, so go check it out. Also…fill up on your basketball, because judging by the number of emails we’ve gotten in the past couple hours, it looks like tomorrow is gonna be a little different around these parts.
