Scottie Pippen is having his number retired

We’re back…no more soccer, unless enough people request it. Even then, it’ll never invade the NBA and NFL blogs ever again. Special thanks to The Beard for throwing in his help.

Some may think it questionable that we would post this in the “Legends” category, but we say it fits. Number 33 is getting his number hung in the rafters tonight, and ESPN’s whole crew are giving their views on Scottie Pippen’s career. This got us wondering about other players from the Bulls’ two three-peats and whether they should join the other 5 retired Chicago numbers, including the number “Phil Jackson” and the number “Jerry Krause”.

The obvious yes votes go to Cliff Livingston, Luc Longley, and Jud Buechler. Not as clear is one Mr. Dennis Rodman. On the positive side:

1) Essential cog in the Bulls’ 72-win season, not to mention three straight championships.
2) Dominant defender and rebounder.
3) Fan favorite. This is a big one. Number retirements are as much for the fans as the organization.
4) MJ, in our opinion, would want it done.

1) Bulls seem to be stingy about retiring numbers.
2) Bulls seem not stingy about retiring people.
3) Dennis played his defining years with arch-rival Detroit Pistons, although that was arguably a different person.
4) Offensive performance was obviously lacking, although he wasn’t there for that, anyway.

We vote for an emphatic “maybe”. Okay, we say yes. It’s not like anyone is going to want number 91, anyway. Maybe they could just retire his name, since the Bulls seem to be into that.

UPDATE: Can someone explain to me why the music played during the unveiling of Scottie’s banner was the theme from Jurassic Park?
