With the unbelievable popularity of the “Teams We Neglect” feature, the Seattle Supersonics have decided to get in on the action by starting rumors they might move to another city.

SuperSonics CEO Wally Walker said for the first time Wednesday that if the team does not get some response from the city of Seattle and the state by the end of the 2006 legislative session, it will begin accepting inquiries from other cities about the possibility of the Sonics moving.

Walker said the team has received inquiries from other cities “through back channels.” He declined to say which cities were interested, but Kansas City, Mo., Oklahoma City, Anaheim, Calif., and Las Vegas have arenas and have made it known they would like to an NBA franchise.

Back channels? We can guess what sort of organizations might be making inquiries out of Vegas or OKC (big mob scene down there), but just what kind of back channels are coming out of Kansas City and Anaheim? However this goes down, Seattle fans don’t have to worry about it until 2010. They should just set it on the back burner and deal with it at the last minute – that’ll work fine.
