Adidas has unveiled the new KG campaign and it’s eerily similar to another recent campaign launch from some other company and player you may have heard of.
“This time we wanted to tell an equally impactful story, with just as much truth,” stated Uli Becker, Head of Global Brand Communications for adidas. “KG brings more than anyone else to the court every night. He’s a leader, a nightly highlight reel, a joker, a battler, a kid and a player who loves the game; he’s all these things every time he checks into the game and touches the ball.”
You can watch the first spot right here. It’s a good commericial, is well-made, and we guess they’re different enough, but the basic theme is exactly the same as that “other one” with that “other guy” – you know someone at Adidas had to be like “maybe nobody will notice.”
Also, the Kid LeBron is way better done than the Kid Garnett. We had to keep rewinding because it looked like a retarded kid running in circles.

Yeah, the “step inside the kid” bit is kind of creepy.
I saw this one already, and it’s the best commercial I’ve seen in a long time. Don’t know what the other ones are like, but if they’re anything like this, “the other guy” isn’t going to look too good in comparison.
I think they’re good commercials, but I also think the base concept works better if played for laughs.
Kevin Garnett as stand-up comedian has a lot of potential, but not with the little tinkle music in the background.
Could be just because I like to mkae a joke out of everything but it’s what I think.
Great spot. Kind of amazing, actually. All those crazy visuals (how’d they do that curtain?!) but, with the music, you walk away thinking about the player, not the effects.
Made me actually like the guy. Not easy to do with a pro athlete.
Similar? I missed the part where BronBron was knee deep in the thick of battle. Or when comedian Kevin and baby Kevin had to deal with the pitfalls of beeing roomies.
The base concept is exactly the same. “Let’s take different aspects of this player’s personality and make them into independent characters.” That describes both of them perfectly. The execution is far different in each, and I like them both a lot.
I like the LeBrons one better and that’s likely biased because of being a Cleveland fan, as well.
I like them both, too. I would say that the KG commercials make a little more sense in that KG has all those aspects as a PLAYER as well as a person. Lebron’s game is multi-facted for sure, don’t get me wrong. But is he a wise old man on the court? I don’t think so. Or a self-absored brat? Not at all. So far he’s proven to be a wildly talented, exciting, awesome man-child of a team player/superstar. And incredibly likable. I think his commericals play off that very well. But I think KG’s play off a deeper truth about who he really is.
BTW: Can you tell I’m a KG fan?
I can’t believe it, my co-worker just bought a car for $30878. Isn’t that crazy!
