Kobe Bryant doesn’t like Superman

Kobe Bryant revealed yesterday that he was watching Superman instead of the Lakers loss to Utah the other night. There are a whole bunch of reasons this is one of the dumbest things Kobe has ever said, the last of which is that he was watching movies instead of his own team.

There was no word if Superman ever threw any elbows, but Bryant admitted he flipped to the “corny” Christopher Reeve movie Tuesday night when it became too maddening to watch the Lakers lose to Utah without him.

“I was kind of going back-and-forth,” Bryant said. “It was tough just to sit there and watch it. … It took away from the nerves a little bit.”

What did Bryant think of “Superman,” the movie his daughter wanted to see? “He’s no Batman,” Bryant said. “Batman’s self-made.”

Before we get to reasons number 2 & 3 Kobe is wrong, let’s start with number 1. The helicopter scene, where Superman first appears in Metropolis to save Lois Lane, is probably one of the five best movie scenes ever, and it’s anything but corny. It’s freaking incredible, still holds up today, and makes all adult males between the ages of 22 and 33 who aren’t Kobe Bryant cry.

Part 2 – Batman is very impressive, as he has no actual superpowers. He’s simply the pinnacle of human achievement, both mentally and physically. However, Superman could kill everyone on Earth in about 3 minutes flat. What does he do instead? He helps us. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. That’s impressive. What does Batman do? We don’t know, but a quick search reveals that he calls poor Robin a retard these days.

And ‘C’, don’t think this wasn’t in the back of his head when he started cracking on the Man of Steel.
