Look out, NarniaWhere’s the very first place we head to check the morning’s NBA news? Variety, of course. Once every 9 months, there’s some NBA news in there, and it’s crucial that we catch it when it pops up. ESPN’s documentary Through the Fire is being released to theaters next month.
Arthouse distributor Cinema Libre has signed to platform the movie beginning in New York on Feb. 10, rolling it out to selective urban markets.
New York is the first city on Cinema Libre’s distribution list because the movie focuses on Brooklyn-born Telfair during his final year of high school. Pic builds up to his decision to forgo college in favor of making himself eligible for the National Basketball Assn. draft despite the fact he’s considered small for the NBA at 5′ 11″.
The movie will make it to the ESPN network itself on March 12, with a DVD release two days later. The article also says the worldwide leader is looking for other documentaries to put on a similar distribution path. Surely they’ll love our idea, as it closely follows up on Through the Fire. It’s called Through the Fire II: Flames of Fury, and is about what happens when you make Sebastian Telfair run through a wall of fire. It’s got a short running time, but it’s fucking awesome.
