Kevin McHale’s future is brightLest we get yet another email accusing us of being irreverent, we hereby will describe how GM Kevin McFrankenstein can turn around the Wolves’ suddenly collapsing season. We looked around to see what the message boards were saying, but apparently nobody in Minnesota has the internet. Where are the online Timberwolves fans???
Anyway, the team is at a crossroads. Kevin Garnett is 29 years old and has been playing since he was a teen. In his favor, he plays outside as much as in, so he hasn’t taken the pounding of a Shaq – he has years of greatness left. Realistically, though, you have your best shot to win it all with Garnett in his prime in the next 3-4 years. That means you can’t rebuild. Two options:
Option 1) Trade Garnett for a slew of draft picks and as much young talent as you can get.
Pros: You’ll get a lot of that type of stuff for KG. You can map out a definitive direction for the franchise.
Cons: You’ll break the heart of an entire city and a lot of fans of other teams. We’re a Cavs fan, so we really shouldn’t care, but we’d HATE to see Kevin Garnett in another uniform. He doesn’t seem like he should be one of those guys. Also, trading a superstar never works out for the trader, especially in recent years. The league is too watered down – in the 80s, it seems like every team had a legit All-Star, but that’s just not the case anymore.
Option 2) Trade for vets like Artest or maybe Peja, and try to get a some help in free agency next year. Make a run for the title with KG, your new Artestian pick-up, and a MLE guy.
Pros: This is the healthy option for the fans and the team alike. You want a competitive franchise, and when you have KG, you’re at least that. Throw the right mix of talent around him and you might get lucky. This strategy was working well until Spree and Cassell went nuts last year.
Cons: How realistic is it they can get the pieces to beat Detroit, San Antonio, Dallas, or even the Cavaliers, who are the best team in the universe?
So…between these two options, what would you do? That’s for you (and Kevin McHale) to answer, but here’s what we’d do – quit. nobody wants to be the guy who traded KG, and on the flipside, nobody wants to be the guy who didn’t get anything for KG when they could’ve. Quitting is the only logical thing to do when faced with adversity; everybody knows that!
Plus, you never know when like the Sacramento job could open up – then you get to party with the Maloofs. One last reason: let’s face it, if you’re Kevin McHale, you’re way better off concentrating on your creepy-ass website.

Guys, I’m a long-time reader, first-time commenter from Australia. I just had to say that I split my sides when I jumped to kevinmchale.com – I love your work at the best of times but that was just bloody funny.
Fantastic stuff – keep up the good work – and go Bulls.
