Kevin Garnett is not the All-Star 1-on-1 champ

by The Cavalier on February 17, 2006 · 19 comments

tourney final.gifWell, it’s all over – KG and someone else played the final game yesterday, and we’re handing out the award to the champ.

What’s great is this whole tournament went exactly how it would have in the real world – everyone voted for who really would win the games, instead of just their favorite player. Here’s a list of everyone who isn’t the champ:

Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Carmelo Anthony, Michael Redd, Elton Brand, Tracy McGrady, Gilbert Arenas, Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, and Jason Richardson.

It was wild, it was contentious, it was labor intensive, and there was lots of sex and drugs behind the scenes.

If you remember, while this appeared to just be a big advertisement for Han Solo and PollHost, it was really an attempt to introduce something that would be far more fun for everyone tomorrow night.

Yes, we’ll watch the 3-Point Shootout, the Dunk Contest, and everything else, and once again, we’ll be underwhelmed. A real, actual 1-on-1 tourney like we saw here? We’d bet anything it would actually exceed expectations. Maybe one day…

In conclusion…congratulations to all 15 players who aren’t the All-Star 1-on-1 champ for holding your heads high and participating. Special thanks also to Han Solo for sponsoring us and helping make this thing everything it could be.

(If you’re interested, here’s one last last look at the final bracket.)

obviously paul pierce is the greatest player of all time. the celtics bloggers have spoken

2 JV4Beantown February 17, 2006 at 9:45 am

And the reason you cant say Paul Pierce wins is…

3 Slappy February 17, 2006 at 10:19 am

because Boston fans don’t take themselves seriously enough probably

4 Jeff February 17, 2006 at 10:47 am

sounds like someone is a bit bitter because his binky (LeBron) was exposed as having zero defensive skill (as of now)

5 The Letter J February 17, 2006 at 11:14 am

The only thing that has been exposed is Jeff’s extremely rigid hard-on for Paul Pierce.

6 The Cavalier February 17, 2006 at 11:28 am

Um…LeBron had 43 in that game, which last time I checked isn’t a sign that whoever was defending him was doing all that great of a job.

PP also had the game of his life.

7 JONESONTHENBA February 17, 2006 at 12:11 pm

The only thing this tournament proves is that the celtics bloggers spent their entire days voting for PP…

8 Jeff February 17, 2006 at 12:33 pm

you can only vote once

its not my fault there are a lot of Celtics fans

9 wdleehi February 17, 2006 at 1:13 pm

Actually Jeff it is your fault.

You created too good of a site.

10 Lil Dice February 17, 2006 at 2:21 pm

I thought the Celtics want to get rid of Pierce to get KG but they’re getting the red light from the Twolves office.

Jeff: You sure about the voting once thing?? There Obviously are a lot of Celtics fans. So that just proves this thing was a popularity contest. Peirce over Kobe…you must be crazy! Kobe is the best one one player in the game hands down. I don’t see KG or Peirce requiring tripple teams. And none of them have the range KB8 has.

You could only vote once, but if you have different browsers you could vote once from each of them.

fwiw I thought in the real world it would’ve come down to Kobe and LeBron, with Kobe winning. (That doesn’t mean I’d rather have Kobe on the Cavs, or even that I think he’s a better player.)

I also don’t think Paul would’ve gotten past Nowitzki, and certainly not past AI.

”With Paul Pierce, you’ve got to hope he has an off night,” said [Ron] Artest. ”He’s in the top two [of tough players to guard]. I come first, then Paul, Tracy [McGrady], Kobe [Bryant], and LeBron [James].”

YAYsports,

Keep trying to be like Deadspin. You guys just aren’t that funny. You should be thankful to Celticsblog for bringing all these people to your site. You obviously don’t know anything about basketball, you obviously aren’t funny, you should just be thankful people are here.

16 The Cavalier February 17, 2006 at 8:29 pm

“Ron Artest? He’s that insane guy, right?”

-Everyone

17 Jeremy February 17, 2006 at 8:29 pm

Obviously.

*eyeroll*

Paul Pierce would be great competition for anyone in the nba in one on one. The only players where’d it be very close are T-Mac and Kobe. Lebron has the offense, but not the D. Since neither Kobe or Tmac made it to the end, Pierce was a clear winner.

Chris,

Dude do you even read this site? I gave a snake veneers and a bowtie.
