Steve Francis can’t read (We’re LiveBlogging NYC)

by The Cavalier on February 24, 2006 · 9 comments

steve francis knicks.jpgWe’ll be pausing the Cavs-Wiz game to LiveBlog the first ten minutes or so of the Knicks-Nets game aka “Steve Francis’s Coming Out Party.” Here’s a little game preview.

The new Knickerbocker doesn’t understand why everyone is all upset about him and Marbury playing together.

“I swear, until just now, until I got to New York, I never heard my game compared to Stephon Marbury’s,” he said.

“You just go out on the floor, learn about each other, let the vibe flow,” added Francis. “At least at first. You allow the chemistry evolve with time. I’ve played with Cuttino Mobley, another great guard, in Houston and we were ranked as the top back court for years. It wasn’t about him shooting the ball or me shooting the ball. It wasn’t a problem.”

C’mon Franchise, let it go already – you’re supposed to be healing. And read a newspaper or the internet now and then. Here we go…

12:00 The Knicks are in their retros tonight, and they’re starting Steve right there next to Marbury. Quentin Richardson gets the 3 spot, which mean Jalen Rose becomes the first disgruntled Knick in this new era.

More after the jump!

11:00 Key to note here that Marbury has been bringing the ball up. On both od their possessions so far his first pass has been to Francis. Our guess is there’s so much talk about them being selfish, they’re going to go out of their way to pass to each other.

10:02 It’s 5-0 Nets. Quentin Richardson looks kind of fat.

8:52 It’s 5-0 Nets. To be fair the Nets look bad, too.

8:35 Steve just took his first NYK shot and it really didn’t go well at all. Jumper from the left wing, missed badly.

8:22 Steve just had his first NYK foul and it went pretty well as far as fouls go.

8:06 Here’s the Knicks set they just ran – Marbury hands the ball to Frye just inside the 3-point line. Frye shoots – Frye misses – Nets fastbreak.

7:44 It’s 10-0 Nets and the BOOS have started in earnest. Time-out Knicks. This really couldn’t be going any better…for all of us writing about it.

7:26 On an awkward drive to the hoop following the offense breaking down, Steve Francis gets a bucket. The era has begun.

7:02 Stevie and Marbleberry team up for a steal and get it to Frye for a dunk! This is it – the peak of their time together! Here comes the backlash!

6:16 14-4 Nets. Turnover Fats Richardson.

5:52 Steve has two fouls and is taking a seat – this has been fun, but at 16-4 and Jalen Rose on the floor, we’ve lost interest. Back to the Cavaliers – see ya Monday.

You prob should have continued watching that game instead of watching the Wizards stomp LeBron. Sorry, dude.

Thanks…

They’re driving me nuts – they simply don’t try some nights.

That was painful.

i figure they might be better if they tried to put the ball in the hoop in the second half.

I’ve said this many times – they have arguably the best perimeter player in the game and a top 5 center (if not top 3).

You should be able to put average NBA players around those two pieces and if they all work their asses off hustling on defense, the boards, and for loose balls, you’ve got a 45-50 win team.

This shit where they come out all unfocused is just unacceptable, and LeBron is as bad as any of them, if not the worst. The problem is he can come out unfocused, dick around, and almost get a triple-double. (25/9/7 last night)

“Top backcourt for years.” What’s Steve talking about? Just off the top of my head, I can name five backcourts a little better or WAAAAYYY better than Francis & Mobley in the early 2000s … 1. Steve Nash & Michael Finley; 2. Jason Kidd & Richard Jefferson; 3. Sam Cassell & Ray Allen; 4. Kobe Bryant & Derek Fisher; 5. Mike Bibby & Doug Christie.
Yeah. It takes time. I think Marbury & Francis will be fine–and they may go down as the best. It’s possible.
But Francis & Mobley were not the best backcourt in the early 2000s!

You could ask Franchise what time it is and he’d reference Cuttino Mobley somehow.

You notice how Stevie went from Jersey #8 to Jersey #1? Someone must have told him about the 5+3=8 math that SOCKK picked up on. And as for Bron…if he had Kobe’s killer instinct he would be unstoppable.

I already have this figured out. 3+5=8. 8 to the power of 0 is 1. So, the only reasonable explanation is that Stevie and Cuttino were married by Gilbert Arenas.
