Some would say this year’s Knicks have been a disaster. We like to think it went perfectly, but we also like to poke good fun of the misfortune of others.

Peter Vecsey is a bit like us in that regard, and thankfully that’s the only way. If you haven’t guessed, we’re talking about his beard, voice, likability, and professional model career prospects.

Today in the his column, he begins to explore what will surely be a hot topic for the next six months - the offseason in New York City. He starts at the top, by stating the obvious - Knicks owner James Dolan needs replace Isiah Thomas.

Dolan’s superior choices are five in number - Jerry Colangelo, Jerry West, Donnie Walsh, Geoff Petrie and ex-Knick Kiki Vandeweghe whose father, Ernie, played for the above-mentioned ‘51 outfit. Kiki, of course, transformed the Nuggets from layoffs to payoffs in less than two seasons and is a rising free agent.

The other four have repeated success stories to their credit. Despite a year (both Jerrys, for sure) or two on their contracts I cannot envision their respective bosses impeding any such switch.

You can guess what comes next - replace Larry Brown, get rid of Marbury, play the young kids, rebuild for reals instead of for pretends. It’s a little hard to read, as Vecsey tends to be, but it’s still reading, which as we all know, is fundamental.

We touched on this in EXPLOSIONS this morning, and we want to go deeper. Let’s say Isiah does get the boot. (For the record, this would be a disaster from our angle.) Has Isiah the GM done enough bad for him to completely overshadow Isiah the player?

This screams out for a Matchup!!!, but we’re out of space. Maybe in the next post? Maybe Monday? We’re completely at a loss as to what to do. Do the Matchup!!! in this post or in a post Monday? This screams out for a Matchup!!! of its own. Damn it.

See, if we did it today, it’d have much more life to it, but Monday might bring a whole different answer. History hasn’t decided yet - let’s wait until July when the Baron Davis deal is done.

Sixers v Knicks in 20 minutes.

    Race for futility, round 1.

Sixers winning - I watch almost every Knicks game now. How weird is that?
