While Barry Bonds attempted to snag all the headlines yesterday, the death of Minnesota legend Kirby Puckett was at the forefront of a lot of peoples’ minds, including Kevin Garnett’s.
KG considered a big brother, and as you can see, he had a tribute to him on his shoes for last night’s game.
“He was one of the very few people that I enjoyed being around, to tell you the truth, because he was just himself,” said Garnett, who wrote KP 34 in honor of Puckett on his sneakers for Tuesday night’s game against the Houston Rockets at Target Center. “I had a lot of private conversations about being who we are, being people, not being afraid of making mistakes.”
“I could never forget — we did a McDonald’s commercial,” Garnett said. “That’s probably when we really started to really bond a little bit to the point to where I could call him a friend… . The things Kirb taught me, I’ll probably use for the rest of my life.”
The Nick Lachey head glued to the back is a bit much, but we like what KG did otherwise. Understated and with excellent handwriting.
In the case that Nick Lachey head wasn’t really there and some ass Photoshopped that in…well, that guy is an ass. We hope he’s as self-loathing and handsome as we’ve heard. We’re going to stop now – as you can see, we have no idea what’s appropriate and not appropriate at a time like this.
RIP Kirby Puckett.
(btw that 3 week period where the NBA is the #1 sport in America officially ended sometime in the last few days, if you haven’t noticed. Hope you enjoyed it.)
