Kobe Bryant wants to be Jewish

by The Cavalier on March 24, 2006 · 11 comments

kobe bryant 04.gifWe’ve had a hate relationship with Kobe, a love relationship with Kobe, we’ve openly mocked Kobe, we’ve forgiven Kobe, and we’ve given Kobe a bowtie wearing snake for a sidekick. We’ve never actually found ourselves totally confused by Kobe, however. (Okay, maybe that one time.)

Regardless, we can usually tell where he’s coming from, being that we can be a bit of a narcissist, too. Then we read this. Apparently there was some discussion going on about Jews in sports…we’re lost.

“I wouldn’t mind being Jewish. I wouldn’t mind. Really.”

“Not too many Jews in professional sports? Hmmm,” Bryant said. “That sounds kind of weird to me. Who did your research?”

Reeling from Bryant’s caustic tone, the TV reporter changed the topic to MVP talk.

A Jewish journalist from The Boston Globe, however, wouldn’t let the previous topic slide. “We are very good at squash,” she insisted, under the impression that she was helping her people’s cause.

“There were three hockey players at my college who were Jewish,” she continued.

“How ’bout that? All on one team,” Bryant said, excited.

“The Red Sox have four Jews including [general manager] Theo Epstein,” another Jewish reporter added.

“What the hell? Who was doing your research,” Bryant asked the TV reporter semifacetiously. “Put the camera back on, man. This guy is false man. This guy is lyin’.”

“I don’t know if I’m converting, but if I do, you can definitely add another athlete to the pool,” he said.

These quotes are from something called the Jerusalem Post, so we have a feeling this might have all been in good fun or something, and maybe it’s being taken out of context by someone looking to be offended. We hope?

It’s good to know Kobe hasn’t stopped offending people, though. We’d recommend throwing up 82 or maybe even going for 90 tonight against the Bucks, just in case someone with an agenda decides to run with it.

(Thanks to Sonia for the heads up.)

And Don’t Forget. A Jewish Team Beat The Toronto Raptors In An NBA Preseason Game This Year … But Then Again, The Raptors Aren’t A “REAL” NBA Team.

I lived in Israel for awhile…most of the team are Americans who didn’t make it in the NBA, some of them are even former NBA players. Nonetheless, the Raps are still only the second best team in Israel.

” . . . something called the Jerusalem Post”? I do hope you’re joking. The Post is one of the most respected papers in the world, and the only one in the Middle East on the same level as the New York Times, The Daily Telegraph (London), The Globe and Mail, etc. I know the New Media often has little time for Old Media, but please, such ignorance, if, in fact you weren’t joking, would be extraordinary.

Dude, it’s a blog about NBA basketball, it’s not about Israeli newspapers.

What the hell is the Daily Telegraph? Furthermore, what the hell is “Media”?

That team from Tel Aviv is full of American and European players, so it’s not a Jewish team. Furthermore, If you are going to reference the Jeruselum post, you must call it the J-Post. Kinda like how the Jewish dating sight is called J-Date.
