Well, the new USA Basketball has leaked the names of the group who’s going be allowed to try-out for Shanghai 08, and Allen Iverson, the one guy who wants to be there the most, isn’t getting the call.
He’s not the only snub however.
We’ve been saying this since 1992 – the Olympics don’t mean anything without Christian Laettner.
We’re not even sure how to read those results, but we’re pretty sure that’s not correct. Maybe we should ask that Deer for help.

I can’t be the only guy who loves watching the Europeans beat the crap out of our fundamentals-lacking pampered superstars. Free throws aren’t free.

I personally can’t believe they are allowing a guys like Arenas, Ridnour, Johnson and not a guy like AI, who is better than all of them and was one of the few in Athens to talk to the media and WANT to be there.
Actually Ridnour would the be the ideal point guard, the guy doesn’t look for his own shot, plus he won’t have to guard a black guy at the games
Who cares if he was one of the few to talk to the media? He’s a ball hog and can’t hit a consistent outside jumper. To win in the international game you need SHOOTERS, perimeter defenders, and versatile big men. That’s why I don’t get why they are putting Wade on the team. That guy could not hit a spot up J if his life depended on it. I love AI as much as anyone, just not for the international game.

Jerry Colangelo still does not get it. You need 30-something-year-olds to win championships. At least half your main minutemen. It worked for the first few Dream Teams, whose vets dominated international ball. Works for the Spurs, Pistons and 2001-2003 Lakers. Old Bulls, old Rockets, old Pistons, old Lakers, old Celtics, etc. SO WHAT DOES COLANG’ DO? ONLY INVITES A FEW 30-PLUSSERS TO THE 24-MAN CAMP. No matter how many times I tell the clueless NBA folks at USA Basketball, they just never get it.

Pierce will be 31, Kobe 29, Redd 28 – there is some vets in there. LeBron/Wade/Melo/Bosh will be going into their 6th year.
Plus KG and Duncan said no. Shaq said no. Who is there – you want Marbury and Francis? Toine? Stackhouse? That generation of guys are all kinda losers.

Seriously. Of The 22 They Invite, They Better Keep Most Of The Stars Who Will Be 30-Somethings Like Chauncey, Kobe, Marion, Pierce, BMiller, Jamison & Bowen. The 1992 and 1996 Dream Teams are the only ones that crushed opponents and the ’92 team had 5 30-plussers (and 3 29 year olds), while the ’96 team had 8. The 2000 team only had 4 and came within a basket by your MySpace buddy Sarunas of losing a game. And the horribly-constructed 2004 team had no 30 year olds … But good point about it being 2.5 years away. I forgot that part at first.
Losing to Venezuela is even better. Our guys are punks.
AI clearly deserves a slot. Not much else to say about that.

leaving AI off was a crime. The few olympic games they actually showed, AI usually had about 7 or 8 assists and everytime they showed the horrible shooting of the team, they usually added that only iverson was shooting a decent percentage from three point land, like 45 percent. The man is like 2nd or 3rd in the league in assists and was probably the only guy other than melo oddly enough that seemed to know how to attack the zone Ds.
Also, I would eat christian laettner for breakfast, if only because he would probably eat me for lunch.
