Last night was Fan Appreciation Night in Philly, and in a special gesture to the fans, faces of the franchise Allen Iverson and Chris Webber both showed up about a half hour before game time, didn’t play, and weren’t even on the bench.
Both will be fined, and surely will feel the hurt of that $10,000 bullet, considering each made well over six figures last night alone.
Needless to say, the fans didn’t think this was all that cool, especially considering this could very well have been AI’s last game in the city as a 76er.
“I’m an Iverson fan and I could have cried when I heard he wasn’t playing,” said fan Paula Cameron, 31, of Elkton, Md.
She attended the game with boyfriend David Prasad, 41, of Centerville, Va. “I wanted to support A.I. and say thank you, and this is a slap in the face,” Prasad said.
Also a slap in the face is seeing our engagement to Paula Cameron crumble right before our eyes in the Philadelphia newspaper. David Prasad, we feel your pain, man, but if you’re going to participate in this torrid affair with our fiancee, please keep it out of the papers.
And Paula Cameron? You can kiss that $15,000 check we send you every month good-bye. You like older men, huh? Nice – that’s not what you indicated on your Match.com profile. (We’ll always love you, and hope to meet someday in person.)
Oh, Sixers GM Billy King was pissed, too, and expressed it by emitting a bunch of swears.
