Although the seedings aren’t completely secured, the last of the playoff teams clinched yesterday, led by the Lakers, who beat up on a Steve Nash-less PHX in LA.
Kobe scored 43, and while he’s trying not to show it, he seems excited to simply be back in the postseason.
“It doesn’t really seem like we were overly jumping for joy or anything like that, but it is a great accomplishment for us, being that we came from last season where we didn’t make it, this season nobody expected us to make it, and here we are,” Bryant said.
That’s a nice recap of the past two seasons – much better than we could do.
Since Kobe has summed that up so well, let’s discuss something that’s going on at Staples lately. It seems they’re running some thing where people get free tacos for holding the opponent under 90. Many teams do this for the home team scoring 100+, but this is the first we’ve heard of defensive tacos.
Good concept, although it may be time for something bigger. Something better. Something that will really excite people.
Why not have a promotion where everyone in the arena gets a brand new car if the home team scores 100 points? The keys to this being successful are twofold. First, promote it super heavily throughout the game, so that when that 100-point mark is hit, the crowd is 50,000 times more excited than they are for tacos. They could keep showing live pictures on the scoreboard of 20,000 cars sitting in some warehouse somewhere nearby and everything.
The other key is to leave off out any indication of how people are supposed to get their free car, and to quickly have the arena staff take down all evidence this promotion existed at all by the time the game ends. Now how fun would that be?
