WHO SHOT MAMBA IPHONE

ONE THOUSAND EXPLOSIONS

If you haven’t refreshed your browser lately, now might be the time to do so – take a look at just how different things are. It’s all changed, as you can see. We’ll have all our thoughts on last night’s action up in a bit, but for now, it’s time to celebrate this blog’s 1000 posts, each and every one of which is a complete masterpiece.

Yes, that link was to our very first Photoshop attempt, way back on August 15th, 2005. We were also apparently channeling Bill Simmons that day – if we were a wiser man, we’d delete it from the database. That would ruin the whole 1000th post thing, however.

Anyway, here we are. We were going to try and pick an MVP for what’s brought us to this lofty position as the best blog in the entire world, but much like the NBA’s MVP, it’s just too close to call.

Do you go with the frontrunner, Mamba, in all of his various moods/personas? The comics in general? A forgotten gem – Mad Libs? What about Isiah Thomas, the actual man? Of course, then you have to throw in Steph and LB, too. LeBron? The makers of Photoshop? You readers, who don’t really make this possible in any way, but show up every day?

In the end, we’re going to give it to the pan, who got screwed in Orlando. We feel bad about that, and really think he needs to be recognized in some way. Thanks for all you’ve done, pan.

The question becomes now, what’s next around here, and why is this “The All-New”? Well. we’re looking ahead to the summertime, and while we somehow made it through last August, when there’s no NBA news, there’s no way we’ll get through the whole summer without resorting to talking about baseball or something.

There’s something we’d like to do after seeing the market out there for stuff like this. No, we don’t want to do a sports news thing, or anything like an “Internet PTI”. Just trust us – it’ll be very YAY-ish, NBA-centric, and the exact opposite of what most people would do with the format, which is hopefully what you’ve come to expect from this site.

The problem is…cash. While sitting between ad deals, we’re more than happy to lose money from our pocket every month to do the blog, but (working title) Project YAYsummer! is going to cost a little a lot more if we want to do it right, which we do.

To solve this, what we’d like to do is publish a book of all of our posts from this season (once the season is over, of course), along with tons of new material to go along with it; our thoughts looking back, rewriting history, honest-to-god shit from our personal life, what really happened when the BDP’s sister came to visit, etc. – almost like a director’s cut. Honestly, it’d probably be like SImmons’ book, but stupider and less more self-indulgent.

The title is A Season Doing Tons of YAY: A Memoir.

The problem is we have no idea if there’d be a market for it, which is where we need your help. If we can get this thing done for a cost to you of $5.00 in a pdf format, is it worth the effort? Email us and let us know, or do it below – we don’t like to advertise our traffic numbers, but there’s like +/-10,000 of you here every day. If a tenth of you were into it, it’s a go.

(That doesn’t mean 1000 of you need to explicitly show your interest – honestly, a few well thought out comments or emails would give us an idea of which way to go. That said, if you want to just say “yes”, go ahead.)

We’d also have to presell it, in order to be able to work on Project YAYsummer! before the summer actually starts – we want to be able to broadcast Episode 1 (actually, it starts at Episode 4) about a week after the FInals.

Can’t you publish this as an actual book instead of a PDF?

6 The Cavalier April 29, 2006 at 12:50 pm

I’d much rather do it that way, but then you’ve got production costs, plus shipping, so the cost becomes like 10 or 12 bucks, which I don’t know if people would pay. These are the things I need to get feedback on.

Project YAYsummer will be well worth it and quite epic, but I need the carsh to do it.

awesome man. congrats on post #1000. now what will it take to get you to add me on myspace? are you waiting for me to beg? cause i’ll do it.

12 Jason April 30, 2006 at 9:34 am

Count me in.

Also, have you considered making this into a pledge drive, like what David Pinto does at Baseball Musings? He apparently raised just under $4k last month. The PDF could be the “$5 and over” prize.

Also, while you’re between ad deals: why not sign up for AdSense?

13 The Cavalier April 30, 2006 at 10:04 am

That’s probably the way it’s going – see today’s EXPLOSIONS.

I used to have adsense, but got kicked off. I think someone was trying to “help” me by clicking ads repeatedly. Unfortunately, once you’re booted, there’s no appeal.

I have another ad deal in the talking stages, but it’s not getting off the ground for a couple months at least.
