Quick – fire your coach, because one just became available. Sources say Adelman will not be asked back to Sacramento, even though Ron Artest said he’d play for free if he was.
This move is pretty much making everyone but the Maloof brothers unhappy. Besides Ron, local media think getting rid of the long-time Kings coach will be a huge mistake. (That article was published this morning, and then what it talked about happened this afternoon. A lot of people say that’s prophetic, but we think it’s magic.)
Here’s a guarantee that goes to Joe, Gavin, Phil, George, Colleen and Mama Maloof: Should you not re-sign Adelman, his replacement will make moves that drive you just as crazy. They might not be the same moves, but all coaches make decisions and have to live with them.
It’s rational thinking, but we happen to know from being Cavalier fans that it is indeed possible to find a coach who sometimes just sort of stands there and observes. Decisions are not a requirement by any means.
Back to the Kings, though. On one hand, it’s hard to pick against the Maloofs, as via their casinos, they have actual real-life thugs working for them, and that’s scary.
On the other, why risk doing the opposite of what Ron Artest wants? Despite the fact the union would never let him actually play for free, we’re pretty sure his intent in making that statement was clear. Plus, who do you replace Rick with? He’s the only legit, experienced, living coach on the market, and you can’t replace him with himself.
You certainly can’t go the other way and replace him with an unliving coach, as it’s common knowledge that corpses don’t know anything about sports.
(Interesting fact – we had to go and look to see if the plural of “corpse” was “corpses” – we thought it might be like “moose”. It’s not, btw. It’s “corpses”.)
Totally unexpected is TrueHoop having a rumor that Don Nelson would replace Rick. This will sound a bit coarse, but our first thought was as follows – didn’t Don Nelson get out of coaching because he was dying?

as the only kings fan who reads this website, i gotta give a
for the decision, unless artest is named the coach
At least it wasn’t a >:(
don nelson? but that guy hates defense even more than adelman! i mean, they brought artest to bring a defensive intensity and swagger to the club. now they want to hire a coach that is known to eschew any kind of defense. maybe the nellie rumor is just that–a rumor. though i don’t know anyone else in the market with a comparable profile to adelman. maybe the maloofs should try to hire stan van gundy–he was a great coach until pat riley made him quit.
Artest can’t be Kings coach — he’s taking over for LB in New York when Larry bolts town. Just so you know. Nellie’s totally available right now, though, and we always thought Rick Adelman should go off and pursue a career as Dabney Coleman’s stand-in anyway.
as a fan of BDPs sister I give this news a ( o Y o )
Yeah. This doesn’t make sense. If anyone other than Artest or maybe Stan Van Gundy tries to coach this team next year, it won’t be pretty.
I Like to think of that as a moral victory.
Only Kings fan that reads this site? Brandon, are you nuts? I’ve spent $2,000 on Kings related stuff since 2006 began. You’re not the only one. (I give this news a
as opposed to a :’( )
That said, like I said on Sactown Royalty if Don Nelson is named coach of the Kings, well, Arco Arena is not gonna be pretty. If Stan Van Gundy, Terry Porter or Artest himself isn’t coaching the Kings next year, I’m gonna… do something… that… isn’t pretty. I don’t know what, yet, but it’s gonna begin with a campaign surrounded by this picture:

Cavalier, you need to work this image in somewhere on YAY! I demand it. Please.
Or I’ll :’(
I nominate Bill Walton ‘cuz’ it would make for great press conferences. RonRon can
be the floor coach.
Oh, & bring back all the assistants & staff. Letting Pete Carill go just seems wrong & welcoming of bad ju-ju.Rather keep the mojo working.
