The Pistons are not the Spurs

by The Cavalier on May 19, 2006 · 15 comments

There’s an interesting and undeniable symmetry at work this evening, as both #1 seeds are playing on the road, down 3-2.

While some longtime readers look at that and say “Symmetry! Oooh! Someone got a dictionary!”, others know that this is a natural time for an edition of Matchup!!! No, no, says the author. You think we’d go for the obvious in this situation?

This is completely different.

Also – Jason Terry says he’s sorry about punching Fin in the crotch area. For the record – we’re not really confident in the Mavs prediction. (Sorry.)

How do they know it wasnt’ someone on his own team hitting him? I think the video is not conclusive and should been thrown out… Which means that Terry should get to play tonight and Mark Cuban should be gettin a piece of Eva for the 4th time this week. He was hittin it on Parkers birthday!

Anyway, jokes aside, this freakin sux as I said before. Dirk needs to step up like a madman and take it to this pathetic team. And if you are going to punch anyone it should be Duncan\Parker\Manu or all three of them at once.

That’s sad, because Finley and Terry were teammates last year. I wonder if there were some unresolved issues between those two, like maybe Finley and Nowitzki hazed Terry when he first got on the team… It’s payback time now — crotch-shot on Fin, and then the suspension, which may end up costing Dirk a title. Take that!

Stern’s got the whole crotch-popping thing figured out for next year:

What are your thoughts on Larry Hughes playing in game 6? Any chance this could ‘mess up chemistry’? Even though I do remember the Cavs w/Hughes handing the Pistons a solid loss during the season…

They’re saying here on the radio that Larry might dress for the game but may not play. Certainly won’t start.

I could see him coming off the bench to guard Billups or somebody late in the game if Flip or Snow get in foul trouble. Can only help.

I’m doing something about that right now – gimme a bit.

has there ever before been a series where there were 2 guys named “Flip”? why isn’t anyone making more of this? um…or maybe I just need to get more sleep on weeknights.

Seriously; a great observation, I’m already racking my brain trying to figure out if there was another Sparky against the Tigers or something similar. You should point this out to Bill Simmons at ESPN, it seems right up his alley.

Does Saunders have a first name or is it really Flip? I never even considered it until just now.

Ok, an explanation of “loud confidence.”

Detroit is a team of castaways. How would you feel being traded around this league and neglected? How would you feel if MJ told you you’ll never amount to everything? An undrafted four-time defensive player of the year? Sheed hated in Portland? I’m sure Cavs fans have heard it before, but Joe Dumars put this team together with a common ingredient of players who were written off and swapped around the league.

It’s truly amazing what became of the Pistons when Rasheed joined us and the boys listened to Larry Brown: A championship and a further shift in the game of basketball toward team play.

Yes, this city and our players are a bit cocky. We have a chip on our shoulders. We’re not unlike Cleveland in that we’re beaten down and battered. We want our players to be like this and we want them to back it up. Sheed rolls an ankle and doesn’t come through, but he’s still ahead on his guaran-sheeds.

You can’t sell the Pistons to white-collar America, but here in Detroit, in the city, they have tons of currency. I don’t think it’s that different in Cleveland, so, enjoy the series. Game 7 is going to be great and I’m certainly not writing off the Cavs. Still, I think the momentum has shifted and as long as the Pistons play the way they did two weeks ago and ALL SEASON, I think this is the close of the Cavs’ season. Even if it is, it was a nice season and a great post season for them.

The Rolling Stones postpone a show in the US to allow singer Sir Mick Jagger time to rest his voice…
