Those prognosticators nailed it once again, as Dirk did indeed have a 50-point, 12-rebound Game 5, which helped the Mavs break away in the fourth and take a 3-2 series lead.
Shockingly, Mavericks Moneyball says it was all about Dirk, Tim Cowlishaw says the cowlisame, David Moore says it was also about Terry and Howard, and Adrian Griffin is confused.
“I played with another guy named Dirk Nowitzki in 2003,” said the Mavericks’ Adrian Griffin, “but this guy here, I’m getting to know him and I really like him.”
NO, NO, NO Adrian – this is the same guy. We know some of these guys aren’t the pinnacle of human intelligence, but c’mon – it was even on the Mavs! Like there’s two different “Dirk Nowitzkis” who happened to play for the Mavs three years apart and look exactly the same?

It’s nights like night the last that we’re reminded why these playoffs have been so fun, and even moreso, they’re important. It’s the cementing of guys like Dirk and LeBron as true, true superstars. It’s about opening things up to new teams and new legacies.
It’s working, too. We could cite the ratings that continue to rise, but we’d rather repeat what super-analyst BJ Armstrong just said on Sportscenter: “There was a big difference between Dirk in Game 4 and Dirk in Game 5.”
Observations like that remind us why it’s great to be alive. We could watch him read that teleprompter all day long. And we will – all the while wondering why we don’t switch over to CNN or even Regis. Or wondering why we don’t get a job of some sort; perhaps a nice cushy position in “consulting” or “businessing”.

I hate you Tim Thomas. I hate you with every ounce of my being. Everyone knows you’re from Paterson and that you think it makes you “hard.” Just shut up already. I hope DJ Mbenga realizes his true calling as “enforcer” and waits for you outside the arena tomorrow night and clocks you in the jaw so you have to get it wired shut like Reef and then I won’t have to listen to your cross-eyed idiocy anymore. In closing, no one likes you.
