Assorted thoughts on both teams here:
There are some people upset at Wade’s post-game comments about being the first from the 2003 class to go to the Finals. C’mon, we all know what the subtext of that question really was, and Wade did, too.
She was really asking “are you glad you got to the Finals before LeBron?” Excuse him for not immediately thinking of Darko in the moment, there. He was also apparently inspired by the presence of Damon Jones in the building.
There’ll be plenty to say about Miami in the days ahead, so let’s wrap up our assault on the Pistons, who handled themselves with extreme class after the game, both on the court and with the press. We’re officially done beating them up, at least from the arrogance angle.
The Detroit News hands out their grades for the Pistons performance.
Free agent Ben Wallace, who called this a “wasted season”, becomes question #1 in an offseason of many questions in Detroit.
Mitch Albom warns the franchise not to blow everything up.
We tend to agree, but at the same time, when the Pistons aren’t clicking as a five-some, they just aren’t very good. We’ve said it all along – it’s a league about superstars, and they lack one. That 2004 team is like the only NBA champion ever to not have a superstar. That’s nice, but it’s also an anomoly, like it or not.
Good luck to them – hopefully they can find a go-to scorer who can create his own shot (like a Dwyane Wade or a Carmelo Anthony), or a true low post threat (perhaps a Chris Bosh), or even a decent big man off the bench (someone like a Darko Milicic). Luckily they have the best GM in basketball, who would surely snatch up players like those if they came along.
As for us, we’re excited, mostly because the Heat moving forward is so great for the league. Shaq will draw non-basketball fans, who can then be exposed to Wade, and hopefully Dirk. The Pistons and Spurs will be back, and two new teams in the Finals means that many more true contenders next season for the Cavaliers to roll over.

If anyone can come back from a 4-2 deficit it’s the Pistons. C’mon, the Palace will be rocking for games 7 and 9. If it ain’t rough it ain’t right, I guaranshee it.
Okay, that’s funny.
Someone on DBB said Manu and Duncan were likeable. Weird.
darko was in the finals? did he take off the warm-ups at all? im not so sure that would count if he didnt take em off.
The angry fan’s answer is “Yes, Darko was in two finals!” Larry Brown’s answer is, “Who?”
Too bad this won’t go 7 or 9 games, I would have loved to see Jake the Dancing Fag bawling in the Palace along with that one guy who paints his head like a basketball net.
I think what Dwyane meant so say is he was the first player to ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTE to a team that made the NBA Finals from the class of ‘03. Simple mistake. I think the people on DBB say Manu and Duncan are likeable because they’re the only players who are in the same league as the Pistons…when it comes to protesting foul calls.
Luke Walton is sobbing somewhere.
Upon further investigation (because I was bored), Brian Cook and Luke Walton both were drafted in 2003 and played for the Lakers when they made the Finals and lost to the Pistons. The Pistons had Darko who they drafted that year, and Carlos Delfino also was drafted in 2003, but he didn’t play for Detroit that season. His rookie season ended up being last year, when they played the Spurs in the Finals.
But seeing as Luke Walton averaged 1.9 ppg, Brian Cook averaged 0.9 ppg, Darko averaged 0.4 ppg COMBINED in his 2 years in the playoffs with Detroit, and Carlos Delfino didn’t even get a minute of action in last year’s playoffs…I’m still saying I’m right.
Wade and now Josh Howard are the first players from the class of ‘03 to contribue to a team that made the Finals.
OMG THE NBA FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO MAVS!!!
dwyane wade is awesome.
josh howard is gonna devour dwyane wade. josh howard is amazing.
Although I’m rooting for the Mavs to sweep the heat, I will secretly root for Dwayne Wade, because his cuteness and basketball skills cannot be denied.
Go Mavs!

Hiss, scratch. You ever gonna let it go? I thought you were done beating up on the Pistons.
But it’s so easy and fun.
