Isiah Thomas is the coach of the Knicks

isiah thomas 333.pngIt hath been done.

Larry Brown is fired; Isiah Thomas is head coach of the New York Knicks, opening the door for a drama-filled 06-07, and the most interesting draft night crowd in NBA history.

Will the building explode as the Bulls use the Knicks selection? “Fire Zeke” chants? Big signs that say “Wow, the Knicks are quite interesting in a circusy way!” Owner James Dolan and the man of the hour weigh in.

“Larry has had a long and storied career. We hired him last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don’t,” Dolan said.

“No one in our organization is happy with last season and we all accept responsibility for our performance. … Today begins the 2006-07 season for the Knicks, and I strongly believe we are on the right track to take major steps in our rebuilding process to achieve our goal of being one of the premier teams in the NBA,” Thomas said.

Don’t forget this important fact – Isiah’s a horrible GM, but lost in all this is he’s also a horrible coach! Seriously, look at him already. He thinks the season starts today! It doesn’t start until November!

The best part about this, at least for the summer, should be Larry’s strange and/or bitter statements, and there’s no way they’re not imminent. The man loves drama too much, plus there aren’t any other jobs out there for him.

Enjoy this, everyone. The Knicks have just solidified another entire season of glee for everyone except their fans.

(Zeke officially gets his own category today – we need to go bacak and rearchive the old stuff.)

UPDATE: ESPN.com says that David Stern is arbitrating the buyout due to a clause in the contract. We don’t even know why that’s funny, but it is.

It’s going to be a wonderful ride… Im looking forward to the Knicks saga via YAY!

wow. just wow. could the implosion get any worse?

who knows? the knicks might just win more games by default. i hear isiah doesn’t use as many lineups and rotations as brown, so that should be less confusing to the players.

all this rubbernecking is giving me a kind of emotional fulfillment i never thought was possible. that can’t be good.

isiah isn’t a horrendous overall coach. he is a bad overall coach. he is a horrendous game management coach.

If we can get Jermaine and KG traded this summer, it should be nonstop fun, although nothing can ever top the year Shaq moved. That summer was nuts start to finish.

YAY Sports is where I go to get the real NBA news.

Nobody is more qualified to coach bad players badly than is Zeke. He has also shown the ability to coach non-bad players badly. This consistency is what the Knicks craved.

Stephon Marbury

Also, YAY, I’m sure you have heard of the phrase “You can never go home again” being important Internet writers and what not, but I don’t think that’s the case. Take me for instance, I go home again every night after work. But my point is this: I think Larry Brown proved that you can never go home again if you suck.

I know I’m crazy, but I think the Knicks are going to win their division next year…

Now maybe it’s just me, but couldn’t the Knicks have fired Larry Brown at any point during the playoffs, which would’ve taken some of the focus off of Isiah and Dolan? Instead, they decide to wait until 2 days after the Finals end?

I can’t wait until next season. This is going to be awesome.

11 The Cavalier June 22, 2006 at 3:27 pm

I think they were hoping he’d take a buyout and it turned into a game of chicken, then at some point they probably said, “let’s not overshadow the Finals with our stupid nonsensical organization”.

Jones I think they’ll be better next year too, but not win the division better.

Are there contract and/or salary cap rules in place that will keep LeBron out of New York?

13 farlane June 22, 2006 at 3:47 pm

Sure, taunt the Cav fans, Chris.

I hadn’t really considered the consistancy angle, Rory, but Zeke really can deliver the full spectrum of bad coaching. You didn’t even touch on his terrible interpersonal skills.

14 The Cavalier June 22, 2006 at 3:54 pm

Assuming Zeke remains completely inept and incapable of controlling anyone, I figure Steph and Franchise in pure run-and-jack mode is worth more wins than them pouting under the weight of Larry Brown.

15 rory freeman June 22, 2006 at 4:10 pm

Another thing about Zeke, Farlane, is that he looks like one of the Jacksons – not the Jesse Jackson or Randy Jackson clan (seriously, no pun intended) – but the Michael, Tito, Jackie, Jermaine and Marlon Jackson family, aka, the Jackson 5. Put a photo of a young Zeke next to that of a Jackson 5 photo and you will see what I mean.

“Uh, hello, Larry?”
“Yes, who’s this?”
“Uh, this is Joe Dumars. And I’m sorry.”

::enter the explosions, stage right::

17 Shaun June 22, 2006 at 4:39 pm

sure Karl, Dumars would apologize after Brown backstabbed Davidson and the whole organization. The Pistons wouldn’t want him around.

Cav,

I just see him coming in there and playing up this us against the world thing. I was just trying to fire up the comments with the division winner thing. But I do at least see them making the playoffs…

20 The Festiva June 22, 2006 at 7:11 pm

Win their division? The Knicks probably couldn’t even beat anybody in the world cup. Even there they’d have too many players playing the same testicler position.

21 Detroit Chris M June 23, 2006 at 8:14 am

yeah, I’m not very Atlantic Division savvy, but i thought the Celtics were were in a good position, and the Nets are still team to beat.

What can’t be cured, must be endured… Alexander
