Mark Cuban can do stuff

mark cuban 00011.pngLots of people will tell you the most visible figure of this Finals will be either Shaq, Wade, Dirk, or Raja Bell.

More than likely, that honor will actually fall to Mavs owner Mark Cuban, who tends to enjoy the spotlight. We don’t hold this against him – we’re quite the little attention whore when given the opportunity, as well.

Anyway, Cube’s onslaught of loud statements has officially begun with this latest post from his blog.

The Mavs CAN’T play Defense.
The Mavs CAN’T play a half court game.
The Mavs CAN’T get past the first round
The Mavs CAN’T beat because
Dirk CAN’T play against smaller defenders
Dirk CAN’T take the ball to the basket
Dirk CAN’T play defense
Dirk CAN’T step up in the playoffs
Stack CAN’T play a team game
JET CAN’T be the point guard on a Finals team
Devin Harris CAN’T get past last years playoffs to have an impact
Gana Diop CAN’T be a player in this league
Avery Johnson CAN’T lead this team to the Finals as a 1st year coach

Honestly, we can’t remember anyone saying this stuff for most of this year – the Mavs were pretty respected from start to finish. Are we wrong in this? We’re not surprised at all to see the Mavs in the Finals.

That said, the Diop thing has thrown us a bit. If you’d told us at any in the past four years that Diop would be a starter on a Finals squad, we’d have assumed you were talking about some sort of sleeping contest. Good for him, though.

Good for everyone, in fact. Good for Jerry Stackhouse, Keith Van Horn, and Antoine Walker, especially. All those late 90s “superstars” have finally found their rightful place as role players. Glenn Robinson is surely sitting back like a proud father wondering “what if…?”

No, we have no prediction yet – if you can’t tell, we’re stalling.

It’s still strange to me that Diop didn’t do “that” in his last year in Cleveland, rather than in his first year of a new contract which was way overpaying him for his prior performance.

C’mon…it’s Cleveland..they couldn’t spot talent if it played on the team..would any other team in the league actually allow THE THOUGHT of Lebron leaving their squad..The Cavs organization is foolish..always have been, always will be.

New ownership, new organization top to bottom.

I agree the former Cavaliers owner, while a nice guy, was always super worried about the image of the team before anything. Hense, Ron Harper for Danny Ferry.

They also got super lucky in that 86 draft and rode it through the early 90s.

Kenny Smith is the starting PG for Dallas? Who knew?
