Dwyane Wade hates Miami

by The Cavalier on July 12, 2006 · 20 comments

lebron james 2006.pngWord is Isiah Thomas was cautiously optimistic the 2006-07 salary cap was going to rise to $150M – unfortunately, it’s coming in at $53.1M.

Maybe by 2010 Zeke can clear some space, because that’s the year Dwyane Wade becomes a free agent – he’s now reported to be doing the 3-year extension with the Heat ala LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

Wade, who reportedly agreed to a five-year, $80 million max extension with the Miami Heat last week, is instead expected to sign a three-year deal with a player option for a fourth season, ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher reported Tuesday.

Well, we could bitch some more about nobody interpreting this as Wade wanting to leave Miami, but honestly, we’re much more curious how Chris Bosh feels right now.

He’s kinda like the guy who’s not quite as cool as the other guys – you never hear his name in as one of the next greats. Whether that’s because he plays in Canada or because he looks like a dinosaur (while playing for the Raptors), we have no idea. In all likelyhood, he’ll sign the full five-year, when if anyone should legitimately looking for an exit strategy, it’s him.

Bron and Wade especially aren’t going anywhere – their legacies will be established by taking their own franchises to championships, not by being Tracy McGrady and/or Vince Carter. (Both former Raptors, btw.)

Melo has definite McGrady potential, although he’ll probably do it by accident – like he’ll accidentally request a trade while trying to order a pizza, then just kinda go with it.

Finally, we need to note that we did this picture yesterday, when it really fits better in this post. Our prognosticative abilities are surely peaking, what with the film and the reduced NBA news this month. It’s not easy being like this – you think it is, but it’s not.

UPDATE: LeBron’s deal is official – read the lengthy interview on the Cavaliers website. Choose to ignore all the nice things he says about the Cavs and Cleveland – it’s all much more conspiracy-filled and media friendly that way!

(Congrats to LeBron and the Cavaliers – back when we were more sensible in our career choices, we had a windfall day once, so we know how good it feels. However, as opposed to talking to the media, we had what to this day is officially known as “That Day There Were So Many Strippers in the House We Couldn’t Move, and Those Sluts Ate All Our Food, Too.”)

Congratulations to everyone wanting to be like LeBron James! Go Cavs!

Woah, Raptors pile up day? But yea..they sorta deserve it. I always feel Bosh is going to be an Elton Brand type of dominance player–always consistent and has a nice jumper.

it will be wise for bosh to agree to a max contract for the whole 5 yrs.
he is not yet in the same class as lebron and wade .
in fact , i won’t be surprised if colangelo will offer him less either in $ or yrs. . bosh has’nt proven nuthin yet. he is not even a big draw likr vc nor a crunch time player .
just a good player in a bad team !

Chris Bosh is a top 10 player in his position in the league.

How is he not worth the max? I wouldn’t necessarily put him in the same sentence as Wade and LeBron, but I’d rank him higher than Carmelo at this point. He’s the best “big” from that draft, and as you can see lately, “bigs” have been hard to come by in the draft.

I’d extend him max, and if he’s a UFA I’d pay him Elton Brand money…20points and 10 boards a night isn’t all that common in the league.

What do you call a team with 3 20/10 guys on the frontcourt?

The Phoenix Suns.

The Suns have had their shots twice now..it’s over for them…one day everybody will realize Steve Nash, like Buck Showalter is only good enough to get you close to the top of the mountain. They’ll never win it cause they AIN’T GOT NO D! Scoring 600 points doesn’t mean shit when you lose by 2.

He’s still mad that the mavs were getting beat by the suns sans amare

Stackhouse is going to be a year older.

“Steve Nash, like Buck Showalter is only good enough to get you close to the top of the mountain.”

I guess you can say that about Dirk now too. You do know that Dirk was on that Dallas team with Steve that could only get “close to the top of the mountain.”

“I guess you can say that about Dirk now too. You do know that Dirk was on that Dallas team with Steve and could only get “close to the top of the mountain”".

It’s funny how all the Steve Nash man-fans come out to support him. If you look at the Mavs with Steve Nash, they’re just like the Suns are now. All offense and not a lick of defense. Without Steve Nash, the Mavs actually play decent defense.

Comparing Dirk to Nash in that respect is way out of line, especially considering the Mavs just made it to the Finals after having the 3rd best record in the league, and the Suns still score 600 points a game but don’t play defense.

Kind of hard for me to call a player “Most Valuable” when he doesn’t play defense. I don’t think LeBron plays good defense, but he was more deserving than Nash.

Since I just showed some love to LeTravel…let me post some chat transcript from “Sports Guy” for you…

Micah (Cambridge MA): How should Cleveland fans (not that I am one) react to LeBron’s new contract?

Bill Simmons: I thought it was a very smart move by him — the Nets/Knicks/Lakers wouldn’t have had the cap space for him in the next couple of years, anyway, and he really would have destroyed basketball in Cleveland if he left in a year or two years. Now he gets to stick around for a few years and keep his options open — he can always force a trade heading into the last year. If you’re a Cleveland fan, I think you should be relieved, obviously … but keep your guard up.

and…

Joel (Youngstown, OH): All Ohioans have heard 10 million times the reasons that LeBron would want to leave town; most of which centers on an assumption that Cleveland is the 5th level of hell. (We all appreciate the thinly veiled cheap shot). Nonetheless, “journalists” like yourself actually realize that there are quite a few compelling reasons for LeBron to stay, right? Not the least of which is that his all-important image gets trashed if he leaves town to cash in on a Nike contract.

Bill Simmons: The one thing I learned last weekend (and absolutely should have researched more thoroughly before I wrote the LeBron section in Friday’s column) was how much money he’s pumped into the community (business and charity). It would have been a total about-face for him to leave — not saying he wouldn’t have done it, just that it would have been weird considering his committment over the past four years. But him leaving/staying has nothing to do with Cleveland as a city — he wants to be multi-media (much easier to do in NYC or LA) and he gets huge bumps in his endorsements to play in a major market. Whether he was in Cleveland, Utah, Boston, Orlando … it just doesn’t matter. he needs to be in a big city some day.

LMAO at the Bosh looks like a Raptor comment. Classic!

How the hell did this thread turn into a Nash thread? If they give his ass the MVP again next year, I think I might have a heart attack. Worst back to back MVP ever!

RAWR. How dare you insult the greatness that is T-Mac. With him and Yao being healthy for next season, they will win the 2007 NBA Championship. Count it
