Renaldo is a superstar

by The Cavalier on July 7, 2006 · 13 comments

Our man on the scene said Isiah didn’t even show, but check out this Renaldo jam over Stephen Graham and Cavaliers rookie Daniel Gibson from today’s summer league game in Vegas.

Daniel had eight fouls in the game – maybe there would’ve been a good time to use one?

isiah thomas, from what i hear, is pretty good at asessing talent. he’s no good at management or putting together a team that can blend its talents, but he’s really good at spotting a player with promise.

i know everyone wants to pile on thomas but once in a while he does something right. talent evaluation is a tricky process–the very people who are ripping thomas for picking renaldo are the same folks who probably would have passed on the gil arenas (fell to the 2nd round) and poo poohed the choice of nowitzki as the #9 pick when these guys first came out.

my dad always said–even a broken watch is right twice a day. ok–so maybe thomas doesn;t even posess that level of accuracy, but it is statistically impossible for him to never do anything right. i know he will do something good just by sheer luck alone–i can feel it.

I’m not willing to jump on the Renaldo train yet, but everyone said Nate Robinson was a crappy second round pick at almost the exact same place in the draft as Balkman. Then he flipped out on everyone in the summer league and suddenly he was the second coming of A.I. in the press.

The point is, Duck Folan.

Only took him eight steps…Ewing could’ve done that in just five

I thought majority of people were calling for Nate Robinson to go first round and/or be the best suprise of the draft.

For some reason, I actually watched the entire second half of that game. Renaldo Balkman didn’t look too good — on more than a few plays he didn’t even make it back over the halfcourt line before the Cavs had gotten a shot up (and these weren’t really fastbreaks). For some reason David Lee was acting like it was the NBA Finals and kept flexing to the crowd every time he made a layup.

As for the Cavs, they didn’t really play anyone I had heard of but it did seem like Shannon Brown had a lot of trouble just dribbling the ball up the court.

You know what I think about Renaldo..he’s one hell of a soccer player…and that’s all that matters.

You know what I think about Ronaldo..he’s one hell of a soccer player…and that’s all that matters when it comes to this subject.

Don’t even ask how I found this old post. Fringe Sports Central is doing a gradual (VERY gradual, almost glacial) review of the summer leagues, starting with the Vegas League. There’s a surprising amount of talent there… and also a surprising number of guys who shouldn’t have been given tickets, never mind playing time (Rodney Billups, I’m looking in your direction). Check out the article: http://fringesportscentral.blogspot.com/2006/07/vegas-summer-league-what-happens-there.html
