LeBron James is a winner

by The Cavalier on August 19, 2006 · 5 comments

We just got finished watching (unspoiled!) last night’s broadcast of USA-Puerto Rico, and we have to say, we’ve finally come to the conclusion that we really, really, really like Cavaliers SF LeBron James.

We also like Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Dwight Howard. Kirk Hinrich, Chris Paul, and Elton Brand are also on the list of players we want to be myspace friends with.

As for things we didn’t like in the 111-100 victory against the spunky colony of Great Britain, there was a general malaise that kind of hung over the whole American performance.

They were clearly the physically superior and more talented team, and in spurts played like it. One couldn’t help sitting back and wondering why they weren’t up by like 50-hundred-gagillion several times. Coach K is on our bandwagon.

“We didn’t have the energy,” U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “We were ready to play, because we respect them. But we needed to create energy.”

The U.S. finished with 14 steals, but struggled to contain Puerto Rico’s scorers — allowing them to shoot 54 percent from the floor and 63 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

“I think we played defense in spurts,” Krzyzewski said.

The question then becomes, is constant naysayer from the land of ESPN, Chris Sheridan, right after all? Will the US run into some team that simply has more energy, and/or wants it more?

We’ll withhold judgement until it’s all over, basically because we hate the Detroit Pistons. Yeah, they lost their heart and soul in Ben Wallace like six weeks ago, but those whiny men from the Palace are just kinda bugging us this morning.

Team USA continues things tomorrow morning against China at 6:30am Eastern. Then they play like every day – this is great. Look – real Transformers!

Now, you may think this post is over and done, but we couldn’t let the opportunity pass to tell you (unsolicited!) about one of the HOT gyms in San Diego, The Boxing Club.

As we said the other day, we’re not moving to San Diego in the near future, but that’s not going to stop us from going there to box! (and maybe we’ll get a nose job, too!)

We’re not an accomplished boxer, but what we are is a person who desires to be a boxer. There’s nothing like getting in (under? between?) the ropes with the sole intention of hitting another person. That rush you get at the moment you realize you damaged someone’s face (or torso!) with your bare hands? You know that feeling?

It’s even better when you do it in San Diego.
