Luke Jackson is a Boston Celtic
Published by The Cavalier October 13th, 2006 in Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Trades
The Cavaliers just traded away one of their excess “swingmen who will never play” by sending Luke Jackson to the Celtics for something called a Dwayne Jones.
This is fantastic trade for both sides, as each team now has a different face on the end of the bench. Jones, 23, sounds like he could be okay, but we can’t help but feel the nonresponse from Celticsblog is indicative of something else.
The Cleveland press release says:
Jones (6-11, 251 pounds) played in 14 games with the Celtics last season and averaged 1.0 point and 2.2 rebounds in 6.2 minutes per game. He played in 26 games for the Florida Flame of the D-League and led the league in rebounds per game (11.7) and offensive rebounds per game (4.5) and ranked second in blocks per game (2.04) to go along with 8.9 points in 31.1 minutes per game.
We’d give you Boston people a look at Jackson’s stats, but the guy (and his back) only played 46 games in two years.
He was always hurt, but also consistently a nice guy. In fact, whenever anyone would ask him how his career was going, he would smile and give a friendly “Terrific! Thanks for asking!” instead of the more realistic, grimacing “%#$YT@!” that was happening on the inside.

How come there’s no ‘Luke Jackson’ or ‘Dwayne Jones’ category tags on this one?Huge oversight. Please correct.
Wait… the Celtics traded for a white guy? Shocking!
Hey, that’s what Dwayne Jones looks like! I nearly forgot. Enjoy.
Jeff I take it that’s all there really is to say about Dwayne, eh?
At least he’s a big guy…could maybe see garbage time if Z, Varajao, AND Gooden were hurt…
Or live to his expectations forever in the D League
He’s no scalabrine.
Hey, Tvbrain, just for the score, the Celtics have fifteen black players and only four white players in the roster right now. The Cavs, until yesterday, were “whiter” than Boston, since they had Jackson, Starosta, Ilgauskas, Pavlovic and Pollard. So, I honestly cannot see your point.
there are actually a fair amount of celts fans that want to keep jones
“there are actually a fair amount of celts fans that want to keep jones”
Seriously? Name one. And no, you can’t count yourself.
Honestly, I don’t know of one fellow fan who could even imagine losing sleep over the departure of Dwayne Jones. He was 100% guaranteed to get cut–he didn’t play a single minute in any of the preseason games. Trust me, we’re not worried about this one.
The Cavs didn’t really get Dwayne Jones, they got a trade exception. But trade exceptions can’t hold chicken sandwiches. No hands.
the comments on the celtics trading for a white guy is ignorant…1st team with a black coach, 1st team with a starting all black 5….
Anyone notice that Renaldo Balkman just kicked total ass in his first preseason game?
Someone explain how the big Luke Jackson-Dwayne Jones trade post gets more comments than anything else in the past couple days.
I think its ’cause we were all relieved that you didn’t follow the Arenas post with another Arenas post. Honestly man, that one was a little creepy. You getting enough sleep? Or is the Piston’s reloaded frontcourt of Nazr Mohammed and Jason Maxiell (whom I’m referring to as Max-Nazr from here on out) starting to get to you?
I’m upset because the crowd at the Q won’t get to bellow “LUUUUUUUUUUUuke!!” every time he catches a pass, dribbles a ball, or gonks another off-balance hipshot off the iron without spraying vertebrae all over the court.
mmm sandwich
Cavalier, Dwyane Jones is “famous” for only a few things. For one thing, he’s a good rebounder. For another thing, he got a lot of his points in the D-League off of putbacks that (because of rules differences) would be goaltending in the NBA. You would think the team would want to see him play in the Summer League, but he racked up DNP-CDs there too. Umm, lets see, he was the first to congratulate Gerald Green when he made that insane dunk on the Raptors, you can find it on YouTube. I think he was a teammate of Delonte West in college.
yup, that’s every last drop of information that I know about Dwayne Jones.
here’s a pure basketball analysis post, so feel free to skewer me…
anyhooo, saw the ‘other djones’ saturday and i can say without question he cannot play in the nba. he is slow as hell, doesn’t jump very well and i didn’t see him go after boards at all. but i can say that he had excellent form for the FT line and swished both of them. he also played the role of “statue” in a short film called “blatche dunks on a d-leaguer.” it was beyond embarassing…
if he was that good, would he have been in the D-league?
Great, now im hungry for Chik-Fil-A. Thanks man.
This post made me go to Chik-Fil-A yesterday.
For what it’s worth, Celtics management has never made any secret of the inherent need to have white players in white Boston. So the politically correct dopey commentary was off-target.

I know this is a blatan lie. I dare you to let us know your sources about it: Walter Brown and Red Auerbach picked the first black player in the NBA draft history, and they ALWAYS stated that they don’t care what their players’ colour was. Auerbach started the first all black starting five, and Bill Russell was the first black coach in the USA SPORTS HISTORY. Boston won two titles with Danny Ainge, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird in the starting five, and won another two with Havlicek and Cowens in the ’70s. This tells us that they just were good players, and as Walter Brown put it when he picked Chuck Cooper, “I don’t care if he is black, white, stripped or polka dotted”. Trying to feed the legend that the Celtics are racist is false.
