Team #2 in the ol’ preview is The GSW, who haven’t made the playoffs in a dozen years.
Little note on this preview post – we actually snagged the blockquote part first, then made the movie poster, then wrote the copy after the blockquote, then the text before, and this paragraph was actually last.
The reason? To draw a potent metaphor about what a mess the Warriors are, despite bringing back their old coach, the well-respected Don Nelson.
As we learned at Golden State of Mind, Mr. Nelson doesn’t like fat dudes and he plans to let his guys just kinda go out there and run around, which is exactly the type of reining in that Baron Davis’s game needs.
“I’ll have five plays which will have three different looks each,” a relaxed-looking Nelson said at the Warriors practice facility Thursday. “I’m going to be very simple. I’m not going to overburden them with too many plays or too much thinking.”
No offense to Don Nelson, but this sounds like what our neighbors up north call “el disastair du le largesse”. Five plays?
This team doesn’t need Don Nelson – it needs Mike Fratello or Jeff Van Gundy. Or even Larry Brown, whose Knicks hearing is finishing up today.
Go Warriors!
Predicted Record: 37-45
MVP: Jason Richardson
Unsung Hero: Jason Richardson
Biggest Storyline: Allegedly Don Nelson’s return, but we’re hoping it’s something else, like everyone spending October pretending the Warriors are going to the playoffs.
NOTE: We forgot Mike Dunleavy is on this team. That said, had we remembered, not one word would’ve changed, outside of this sentence, which wouldn’t be here.
(These previews are merely our thoughts. If you need to know the intimate details of what this team did in the offseason, we recommend the NBA Blog Previews group blog thingie, or John Hollinger’s crazy, obsessively detailed training camp previews.)
