We’ve never played any fantasy sports before.

Between time commitment and the fact (no offense intended) we’ve always found something about it inexplicably creepy, we just never dove in.

Somehow Ryan over at HoopsAddict convinced us to join his bloggers fantasy league on NBA.com this season. We don’t recall the exact sequence of events, but somewhere in there (we assume) was the promise we wouldn’t have to do anything.

The one thing we did do was vow that if we didn’t get LeBron, we’d blow the entire thing off and pick Tyronn Lue with our first pick.

Well, the draft was this morning, and while we did indeed blow the whole thing off, it wasn’t intentional. In fact, we were reminded by fellow participant Howie the Hype moments before the draft started. Fully intending to participate to the best of our abilities, we instead went for a run and forgot.

As happens in such situations, the computer chose our team for us. The roster:

Kobe Bryant
Baron Davis
Tyronn Lue
Antonio McDyess
Kyle Korver
Ruben Patterson
Mark Blount
Jackie Butler
Ronnie Brewer
Mike James

Now, we have no idea how the scoring works or if these players are good for it, but we’re assuming our rule that “any team with Baron Davis sucks” works in both real and fantasy scenarios.

What’s kind of interesting is that if we hadn’t gone for that run and ended up actually picking (with the goal of drafting players we don’t like), this is pretty much the exact draft we would’ve had. The Tyronn Lue pick was destiny.

That’s excepting Kobe, who of course we like, and therefore must immediately trade, preferably for Eddy Curry and/or Antoine Walker. Fantasy owners, email us and make an offer for #24.

(NOTE: Our team is named “YAYsports! Gang of Angry” - we think it was supposed to be a Gang of Angry “somethings”, but we can’t remember what the “somethings” were and apparently it was too long to fit.)
