Billy Hunter is hilarious

With all the turmoil about this new “no excessive complaining” rule (it’s not “zero tolerance”), the players have been looking for help anywhere they can get it.

Unfortunately, the only place they have to go is their union, which is arguably horrible in terms of how much power they have. (“Horrible” is probably generous btw.)

Anyway, the NBA Players Union is headed up by one Billy Hunter, who has a history of getting crushed by NBA commish David Stern.

This time is gonna be different, though – listen to this plan!

“I think what may ultimately happen if it continues to occur is we will probably be compelled to bring an unfair labor practice action or something,” Hunter told The Associated Press. “Try to seek some relief, at least to have the issue either heard or at least elevated so that it gets a lot more public attention than it’s currently getting.”

There’s two things to analyze here.

First of all, Billy’s plan to fix this “NBA players complain too much” stigma is to complain to the media. Perfect.

Secondly, we love the earlier part of the sentence – “bring an unfair labor practice action or something“.

Or something.

Billy, did you just say you’re gonna try a bunch of stuff until something works, but before you do that, you’re gonna whine and cry and hope David Stern (!) caves?

Why don’t you do some research and find out of there’s any merit to any of this or something? Why don’t you call David Stern and say something or something? Why don’t you quit or something?

We’re not sure why we got so angry there – we really have nothing against Billy Hunter. He’s actually right up there with Billy King and BIlly Diesel (Vin’s brother) on our list of incompetent Billys in the NBA.

We’re also not sure why we even brought this up – we’re a week into the season. Give it time – this’ll balance out. Stern is into the strictness, but he’s not stupid – he doesn’t want a bunch of emotionless drones out there.

This is the guy who built the NBA on the personalities of its players, not the guy who didn’t build the NBA on the personalities of its players. That was that son of a bitch Billy Diesel.

NOTE: Nope, Tim Duncan did not get a tech for that gem of a look as the Spurs dropped PHX to 1-4 last night.
