Well, it’s official, although the team won’t say anything about it until he clears waivers tomorrow at 2.
There’s no quote yet, but this is hot from EEE ESS PEE ENN‘s Marc Stein.
Webber told ESPN.com that he has chosen to sign with the Detroit Pistons and is flying home Monday to spend Martin Luther King Day with family members.
He can officially sign with the Pistons on Tuesday after clearing waivers.
We actually think this is the right move for both parties, so we’ll wait to give our official Pistons mockery in a bit – if they do that Marko Jaric trade, there’s a lot more to work with.
Yeah, Webber could have a better shot to win it all in Dallas, but that’d be like true piggy-backing. Dude can still contribute, and in DET, he’ll get to. The way people talk about him (including us occasionally) like he’s dead, you’d never guess that he averaged 20-10 (fine – 9.9) last year.
The real nugget of info here is that you can actually now just flip on your computer, talk to ESPN.com, and your statement shows up as news.
We are truly in the future.

I said the exact same thing last week, Brian. How the f*** did Chris Webber’s ghost average 20 and 10? It’s kinda awesome, really, because he’s one of those guys who is a shell of his former self, yet puts up almost the same numbers that he’s averaged for his career. It would be the equivalent of being an amazing lover all through your 20s, having your junk operated on at 30, and then jumping back into the sack and getting your swerve on at a slower pace but still being nearly as “productive.”
