Larry Brown is back in Philly

When you’re talking about odd hirings in the NBA, the one that went down yesterday is right up there with the legendary “Chicago Bulls Hire Tim Floyd – Will Continue To Run Triangle”.

If you haven’t already heard, Larry Brown is now the executive vice president of the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers, a position that will basically make him an official advisor of sorts to GM Billy King.

History tells us that Larry Brown, while a fine (if overrated) coach, is possibly the last person on Earth who should have any say in personnel decisions.

Like, the last. Even after the lesser Paxson brother.

The [Seventy-]Sixers said Brown will assist in special projects within the front office and help the front-office staff and the team’s entire basketball operation.

Brown was not available for comment. The [Seventy-]Sixers said they would hold a news conference with Brown next week, perhaps as early as Monday.

First move – release everyone! Second move – rash trades! Third move – release 1/4 of the players you just rashly traded for!

That covers Monday through Wednesday’s transactions, assuming Brown hasn’t started negotiating a contract to become head coach or something elsewhere by then.

Our only point of contention in this whole thing (and there are two, actually, so we’re lying again) is why even keep Billy King and Mo Cheeks on the front lines?

Just let ‘em go already – by late next week Larry will have completely neutered them. In addition, he’ll have traded for Gerald Wallace, only to have retraded him the next day for Melvin Ely, who will have then been swapped for Brevin Knight hours later.

(And if you think we did that just because the only roster list we have open is the Bobcats, you’re right.)

By the way, that link also has a lil’ blurb about the Seventy-Sixers possibly working on a Chris Webber buyout, so look for Miami to jump on that one asap.

What exactly is the Minnesota Logo supposed to mean?

Yeah I think eventually Casey will be gone, even though they are playing well right now.

We’ll have to wait and see. However, if he does go I would like to see someone young who can help them rebuild.

As for the McHale part, that is definate. I have been very disappointed with his operation over the years.

LB as a coach/gm would be a good move, I think. (similar to what D’antoni is doing in Phoenix right now.
McHale is complete garbage, and failed to bring in the one player that could have gotten his team to the playoffs.
And as far as I can see, he isn’t doing anything to advance his team right now.
He’s just banking on Foye and Blount.
DEAL RICKY DAVIS.

I think LB having any say in trades and signings is a disaster – he gets sick of players as quickly as he falls in love with them and hates young players. If you’re rebuilding, stay away. Detroit and he used each other to perfection.

I think “The Cavalier” is just a bandwagoner.

The Cavalier is just mad that his team can beat such NBA elites like the Spurs but they still can’t “Go Philly” on the Pistons when it counts…

12 The Enforcer January 6, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Boney, don’t be angered that your beloved team is losing to the bulls right now….

13 Boney January 6, 2007 at 11:26 pm

I’m not angry, the season is only 30 days old… As we all know there are 82 games in a NBA season… if it were up to The Cavalier we would have just handed the NBA Title to LeBron in the off-season because they won it on paper…

30 days old?
Hand LeBron the NBA Title?
Cavs best on paper?
Is there some other blog that I’m not seeing?

Nov 1 – Jan 7…might be 2 months, but I’m not sure.

I may have spent the past 30 of those tearing the Cavs to shreds and calling them unwatchable, including LeBron. Not sure about that either.

In conclusion, GO PISTONS!

He, he…I love this website. It makes me like the NBA just a little bit more. Frank, hope your backs doing well (inside comment, don’t read to much into that, Cav). Go Pistons!
