Coach Pat is back

We don’t think it’s any secret to the discerning reader that we’re not entirely enthralled with the NBA so far this year.

If it’s not our Cavaliers playing with apathy, it’s Chris Webber tanking in order to get released. If it’s not (something), it’s Brad Daugherty doing NASCAR commentary for ESPN.

That’s not to say there’s nothing to love still. The Mavs, Suns, Lakers, and Jazz are all great stories. (In fact, maybe it’s just the Eastern Conference that’s so deflating. Oooh – outside of the Raptors – we’re liking what’s happening up there.)

Anyway, the great symbol of what ails the NBA is the World Champion Miami Heat, who have made no secret of the the fact that as long as they get to the Playoffs, are satisfied. They are, of course, led by the legendary Coach Pat, who took a break because he was bored would DIE if he didn’t get knee and hip surgeries.

Well, according to everyone on the internet and television, he’s coming back after the All-Star break. He’s apparently either feeling better or recently took note that his team is almost back to .500.

Guess which one we’re leaning toward?

This is where normally we’d pull a quote and then make jokes. We can’t do that, due to being haunted by visions of that 2-7 CLE-MIA matchup staring us in the face. It’s not there yet – but it’s like right there.

2-7 matchup??? You’ve got some high hopes there buddy… I wonder if this is the first year where the 2nd seed in the East didn’t have at least 50 wins… Go Pistons!
