Dwyane Wade has an EXPLOSIVE ouchy

by The Cavalier on February 22, 2007 · 40 comments

Wow, trade deadline day and we have to basically be gone for the duration – if anything goes down, we’ll be sure to give our vital input late this afternoon or early evening.

Nobody is really wondering out loud what’s going on with Z, but the more the Cavaliers play without him, the better they look. We don’t like thinking this way, even though we are.

(The above alludes to the CLE win over TOR last night. As you know by now, PSing dino heads on Chris Bosh is our favorite thing. we’re willing to admit this one was a bad match.)

The Association makes a mild notation regarding Smush Parker at the point for the Lakers.

Dwyane Wade goes down with a dislocated shoulder – it took a wheelchair to get him to the hospital. (Guess which two words in that sentence are scary – answer below.)

Vince Carter made a last-ditch attempt to make other teams want him, netting 46 points in a loss last night.

Manu Ginobili scored 24 points in a row last night – we’ve searched high and low (also left and right), but have yet to find too many people who’ll admit they’re impressed.

Them Pacer boys done got all up in trouble again. The Pacers officially support them.

The Big Picture interviews the BOG’s own Dan Steinberg, the journalist we’ve been waiting for our entire life.

Brian Windhorst says Danny Ferry has the green light to go get Mike Bibby for the Cavs. We’re down – very, very down, although letting Gooden go will hurt if it happens.

Plus, non-gang activity in Cleveland will triple with the arrival of Team Dime!

(The two scary words are “it” and “to”.)

the biggest mistake you’ll make is to trade Drew Gooden. That will leave you with Scot Pollard, Anderson, and Z.. I know they’ll probably get another big man but not as good as Drew Gooden.

Pretty good job the previous GM did by trading the #1 pick for Jiri Welsch…

duane wade is funny.. a wheelchair… GENIUS!

expect 36 free throws tonight in an inspiring performance after being wheelchaired into the AAC at 6pm…

The Jiri trade was a bad GM move. Not as bad as whichever team/GM passed on Carmelo to take Darko…but still pretty bad.

5 Fios February 22, 2007 at 11:58 am

The Pistons KNEW C-Webb was going to be bought out and resurrect their season so they are in a position to question others … it’s like the story of Jesus, minus the fishing

If the Cavs trade Drew Gooden they’ll be forfeiting a hell of a lot of rebounding, especially onthe offensive end. Bibby’s playmaking would improve Cleveland’s assists-to-buckets, without a doubt, and he’s not a bad perimeter shooter either. It’s a gamble, but maybe one that the Cavs don’t have much to lose on. They aren’t going to get past Detroit with their current roster, and just may fall behind Chicago as well.

Darko, BTW, has turned out to be a better team player than Melo. Anthony can’t even claim being to the Finals, while Darko’s been there twice, with one ring. Darko brought chemistry, good karma, and a championship. Melo would have brought dissention and selfish play; Tayshaun Prince brings all the intangibles – that’s why they passed on him; he wasn’t needed. Darko was strictly a gamble for the future, and now that future was put on hold, and waiting in this year’s draft. Too bad that Wade’s injury gives Orlando a boost in trying to avoid becoming a lottery team.

7 Lucas February 22, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Bibby isn’t worth Gooden’s patch of hair.

8 Fios February 22, 2007 at 1:17 pm

This is dumb (goes without saying) but I really wish the trade deadline was two weeks from now, I’m curious to see how this current iteration performs before blowing it up

9 Boney February 22, 2007 at 2:25 pm

yeah you’re right about taking Darko over Carmelo being a mistake… I mean cuz without Carmelo would have never won the… oops that’s right, they won the Finals that year without the help of the 2003 draft pick.

It’s amazing how year in and year out Detroit’s GM can make moves while other teams are pretty much handicapped to their worthless salaries (Larry Hughes, Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall) and trading first round picks for guys like Jiri Welsch… yeah I guess taking Darko over really anyone in 1 draft is worse than 3 free agent signings and one bad trade… idiot. Pretty good… keep thinking Larry Hughes is worth $65m… keep drafting DaJuan Wagner… keep letting one of the best power forwards in the league skip out of town when he’s a RESTRICTED free agent…

Yeah I guess it sucks that Detroit can’t make stellar decision during the draft to pick guys like DaJuan Wagner and Chris Mihm. It’s kind of hard to screw up a draft when you have one of the worst records in the league in 2k3 and you EARN the #1 overall pick while Detroit was awarded the #2 pick because of a trade they made when they got rid of OTIS THORPE even though they made the Eastern Conference Finals for the 2nd year in a row.

Yeah dude, one draft pick makes for a terrible move by Joe Dumars… maybe Detroit should try to sign Danny Ferry… and to be honest, trading for Jiri Welsch PERIOD is a bad move… keep trying to trade your best low post player for another guard. I guess Eric Snow and David Wesley can play power forward

This is in response to JRPD (not to The Cavalier),

If you want to keep talking, Detroit’s other drafts have yielded All Stars as well, the only problem is like in the case of Mehmet Okur, we have Rasheed Wallace (trade) so we didn’t really need Okur.

You can draft Dajuan Wagner more than once? He truly IS amazing

12 cavs_fireside_tradecentral February 22, 2007 at 3:11 pm

Sounds like Sacramento has told Cleveland that they don’t have enough to acquire Bibby.

Well, Snow is pretty well rested now, eh?

13 Fios February 22, 2007 at 3:28 pm

Granted, I may say something vastly different three weeks from now but I am not upset about the non-event. The team is on a decent roll with good wins against some quality teams, if they can play at about this level for the remainder of the season, the Cavs will be in pretty good shape even though Boney will tell me they suck.

14 JRPD2424 February 22, 2007 at 3:55 pm

Uhm…??? Boney, I’m a Pistons fan.

15 cavs_fireside_tradecentral February 22, 2007 at 3:59 pm

I agree that the Cavs have been shaping up lately. The more they run, they better they’ll get.

16 Frank February 22, 2007 at 4:05 pm

I actually agree with Boney. Although the defensive tone is hilarious.
Trading Gooden for good guard seems like a good idea, but who else do we have on the post? Z may be out for a while. I heard he lost unborn twins and that his wife was in bad shape. I don’t want to start that rumor if it’s untrue, but what a blow if it is.
Anyway, we’d have no post game with AV and Marshall. We might even have lost Pollard in that deal. AV and Gooden are great to have, I hope we keep them both. The Cavs can find an adequate point guard in the draft (maybe already have) or via free agency. Mo Williams?

Detroit did screw up taking Darko though.

17 Boney February 22, 2007 at 4:50 pm

Portland screwed up taking Sam Bowie also… only difference is, Detroit actually won titles whereas Portland hasn’t.

I don’t know why I got so defensive earlier… to me, even now reading it back is funny…

anywho…

18 The Cavalier February 22, 2007 at 5:09 pm

Do I really need to analyze the Juan Dixon deal?

Frank I heard something similar about Z – sucks if true.

19 Boney February 22, 2007 at 5:53 pm

You’re lucky Dixon didn’t end up in Detroit. He’s the guard off the bench the Pistons could have used (unlike Flip).

Now I know why CLE didn’t keep Flip Murray.. he’s worthless. He’s just like every other guard that plays for CLE (except Boobie), he dribbles out the shot clock and he puts up shots that make both Donyell and Damon Jones wonder what the hell he’s doing

20 JRPD2424 February 22, 2007 at 6:41 pm

I KNOW! If only the Pistons had traded up to get Dixon back in 2002, forcing Tayshaun Prince to move back to his home planet.

21 Carlo February 22, 2007 at 8:02 pm

Well that was boring. How many interesting trades have there been during the season this year? Basically AI and the GSW-IND one (which was interesting because I didn’t know a teams management would just bend over and take it up the bum. (By it I mean penis.))

I guess maybe Boykins for Blake, but shiiiii’t…

22 TVBrain February 22, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Boney,
To say that ‘Melo would have offset the chemistry of the Pistons is a huge discredit to the veteran leadership of that team. Don’t you think Chauncey and ‘Sheed coulda kept him in line. (Resisting the urge to make a joke about Sheed refusing to pass him the bong if Melo didn’t pass him the ball.)

23 zack k February 22, 2007 at 8:09 pm

it is very orange in cle tonight

24 Carlo February 22, 2007 at 8:10 pm

http://www.nba.com/heat/news/wade_070222.html

Oh my God, is it just me or does that article read out like he has cancer or something? “… he weighs his options and decides what path to take.” For fucks sake, it’s a dislocated shoulder, how many “paths” can there be?

25 Carlo February 22, 2007 at 8:15 pm

Oh my, I just heard that he might not play more this season.

When was the last time the reigning champions didn’t make it to the playoffs?

26 Carlo February 22, 2007 at 8:19 pm

“Only once since 1970 has the defending NBA champion failed to make the playoffs — Chicago in 1999.” according to AP.

27 NDEddieMac February 22, 2007 at 8:43 pm

I was impressed by Manu, but I like the Spurs, so i’m one of few that doesnt hate him.

28 Boney February 22, 2007 at 9:13 pm

TVBrain

You obviously haven’t watched the Nuggets play lately… besides, he would have been sitting the bench anyway with LB as coach and then he would have dipped out last season. Melo sucks on D anyway, and on a team built around D at the time, he wouldn’t have worked out…

those creamsicle uniforms by CLE tonight are disgusting… and when is the league going to stop kissing Bron’s ass by putting him on Sunday games anymore? jesus christ, if I wanted to see Bron this much, I’d move to Ohio.

29 Boney February 22, 2007 at 9:15 pm

Anderson Varejohn is proving tonight why Drew Gooden wasn’t traded for Bibby…

that and the fact that he looks like he has a head full of pubes…

30 Boney February 22, 2007 at 9:16 pm

2/8 from the free throw line tonight by the “MVP”…

doesn’t sound very valuable to me.

31 Boney February 22, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Bron let’s Ben Wallace of all people take it to the hole for 2 layups in a row…

pretty good D by the “MVP”…

I think Ben Wallace is the only guy in the league right now with a worse free throw percentage…

32 Fios February 22, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Boney = schandefreude (honestly man, that’s really annoying and sort of petulant)
I blame myself for this loss, way too much guarded optimism, the Cavs reverted back to all of their bad habits tonight save that Damon Jones wasn’t around to go 0-7 from the arc. Hughes took TWENTY SIX SHOTS AND MADE NINE OF THEM. This win had nothing to do with the Bulls vaunted defense, it was terrible, terrible execution on offense and an inexcusable lack of hustle on defense. At this point I would be happier if the Cavs trotted out a plate of mashed potatoes to coach the team.

33 The Cavalier February 23, 2007 at 12:30 am

Would the potatoes spit in the cup?

34 Frank February 23, 2007 at 12:43 am

I was there tonight so I couldn’t keep up with all of our stats. I notice we got creamed almost everywhere. How was this even close?

I’m hoping Wallace and Varejao develop a rivalry. It looked like they were going at it a bit tonight. Wallace is clearly the better player, but it seems like AV gets under his skin, like he does with so many arrogant players. Love that.

35 becky February 23, 2007 at 3:02 am

can we cancel all the nationally televised heat games at this point? please? also, can I quit drinking?

36 Fios February 23, 2007 at 6:15 am

The potatoes would spit into a bag of chips while looking down on them in disgust and muttering “sellout”

37 JRPD2424 February 23, 2007 at 11:03 am

Thats funny because I’ve always thought that Mike Brown kind of looks like Mr. Potatoe Head. He should put his angry eyebrows on.

38 snoid February 23, 2007 at 2:31 pm

GOOD ONE, Fios!
