LeBron James has the pre-April Crazies

by The Cavalier on March 15, 2007 · 27 comments

Yes, we know we should be talking about the Suns-Mavs instant classic 2OT mega-game.

At the very least, we should be addressing the start of the NCAA Tournament. (Although we fall into the Marc Stein camp of “just not that into it” – at least beyond Ohio State.)

However, on a limited time budget, we can’t help but want to discuss the Cavalier victory over the helpless Memphis Grizzlies. You see, every CLE victory holds some significance at this time.

With seven wins in a row, every fan we know is simply waiting for the letdown game, of which last night would’ve been it if this were the January version of Team Bron. 4th game in 5 nights, back-to-back, weakest team in the NBA, blah blah words.

Instead, they blew them out without remorse or pity. This team is rolling.

Instant classic. My infant daughter wondered why I was yelling and popping my Nash jersey though.

That quote has nothing to do with the game, and actually comes from a comment on Miss Gossip’s SunsGossip page. We must ask this of you – do any of you pop your jersey in the privacy of your own home?

If your answer is yes, and you keep it to yourself, we ask that you PLEASE continue to keep it to yourself and sit there quietly. If your answer is yes, and you actually tell people you do that, we must ask you to leave.

As for the Cavaliers, the big thing right now is catching the Pistons, who won their fourth straight last night, eliminating all hope that their Western road trip was going to open a door to making up the two games CLE is trailing them in the standings.

Looking at the comparative upcoming schedules is a different story, however. Cavs have it fairly easy the rest of March. Pistons, not so much. Hopefully they’re all tied up for the next CLE-DET game on April 8 in Detroit.

(As for the Tourney apathy, here’s the deal. We don’t gamble, we don’t follow college during the regular season, and we’re only a fan of one team. Plus, as noted by the picture above, the Return of the Exile is upon us, and that’s about all we can think about basketball-wise at the moment.)

Uhhhh, do you realize BoozerGate resumes on St. Patrick’s Day? What evil genius scheduled this? Were Roundie Henchmen involved? Was it Scoop Jackson? (Does Scoop steal all his video game show monologues from yay too?)

(Cleveland has a largish Irish/wannabe Irish community and SPD – sorry BDP, not you, well maybe you in certain isolated communities – is kind of a big, drunken deal. For reference, I was in a conference room on the ground floor 3 years ago on SPD when a young lady proceeded to pee on the building, right in front of a window. She had a wall of people in front of her, facing the street, but windows are transparent people! Even when you’re really hammered they can be seen through.)

Bottom line – it’s going to be 2 parts awesome and 1 part scary. And somebody will probably puke on Boozer. I don’t rule myself out.

Boozer (if he plays) will dominate Drew Gooden down low… I’m sorry, that’s just how it’s going to work.

3 The Cavalier March 15, 2007 at 11:38 am

And this is some sort of revelation because…?

4 Boney March 15, 2007 at 11:42 am

all of this talk about Boozer, about how he’s bad and mean because he’s not involved in cake! gate or whatever… when it comes down to it, DeRon Williams and Boozer will dominate… I think CLE will win, but then again UTA has been losing of late and the “due” factor is kicking in.

Boney and Cavalier need to get a room :)

6 The Cavalier March 15, 2007 at 11:52 am

I don’t understand your point – am I supposed to be offended that Boozer is a really good player or something? Because I’m not at all – I still like watching him play actually.

7 Fios March 15, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Boney is on a lifelong quest to find new reasons to hate the Cavs, setting up straw men is part of that plan

8 C Note March 15, 2007 at 12:20 pm

I don’t think any Cavs fan would question Boozer’s level of balling. The whole question is, who could like a guy that lies to blind people? It’s as un-American as Tony Parker.

And I think Gooden’s neck hair beats Carlos’ pimples.

9 The Cavalier March 15, 2007 at 12:38 pm

They should invite Gund to the game and show him on the scoreboard during the game at some point.

10 Fios March 15, 2007 at 1:03 pm

They should hire a Boozer lookalike who actually doesn’t look like him very much at all and make a poorly edited video showing him stealing Gund’s cane and taking it to Utah

11 Fios March 15, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Oooooooooh and they should play the old-timey, black-and-white-silent-film villain music when Boozer appears

12 Boney March 15, 2007 at 1:25 pm

or they should just play the basketball game and win it

13 Fios March 15, 2007 at 1:30 pm

Again … for the eighth time in a row

14 The Cavalier March 15, 2007 at 1:30 pm

So noble, this one.

15 Boney March 15, 2007 at 1:47 pm

sweet, playing basketball without flashy screen antics and/or “hype boys” yelling into the microphone trying to pump up the crowd… what a concept!

I do think that flashing the Michigan logo on the scoreboard is humorous thought… pretty cheesy, but still somewhat humorous

16 TVBrain March 15, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Boozer alwasy got a little too sweaty for me to enjoy his play. He was kinda gross.
Never question his ability top play though. Well, mayb his ability to play a whole season.

17 The Cavalier March 15, 2007 at 2:49 pm

Yeah Booz’s jersey was always a shade darker than everyone else’s by the 10 minute mark of the first quarter.

Boney aren’t the Pistons the kings of the bell-and-whistle in the arena brigade, with perhaps the loudent, most obnoxious, annoying PA guy of all time?

18 The SP March 15, 2007 at 3:32 pm

I think Mason is a beast actually. I have to admit his announcing is thuggish ruggish. The Cavs need the dude from last year back because he sang DJ’s name to the tune of “Mrs. Jones” and I laughed every time.

19 roger March 15, 2007 at 4:13 pm

Slammin’ Ronnie Duncan was the worst. I like robot-guy so much better.

I don’t hate Boozer because he’s good. I hate him because he tricked an old blind man. I will be yelling at Boozer from outside the building. Listen for that.

If we hadn’t shot up Uday Hussein, we could have used him for the Fios-inspired skits. Less acne though.

20 JONESONTHENBA March 15, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Dude the Best P.A. Announcer ever is Ray Clay from Chicago…too bad they fired him:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f61Ftqi0iHc

The new guy they have in Chicago now SUCKS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW-JpBYWVzU&mode=related&search=

The worst part about it is that he tries to copy Ray Clay’s style. The only reason they fired Ray was because they were mad at him for introducing Jordan with enthusiasm while he was playing for the Wizards.

21 Carlo March 15, 2007 at 5:21 pm

Wow, this is akward. Normally I’d hope the Cavs lose cus they are from Cle and this kid named LeBron plays there, but now they play the Heat. I can’t make up my mind who I want to lose more.

Oh, and I pop my jersey, but ironically (hm, Firefox spell checker seems to think it fits so ok.) + I’m a gangster.

22 Carlo March 15, 2007 at 5:23 pm

As you all know we gangsters can do what we want and nobody dares say anything ‘cus we’ll be all like EY! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU LOOKIN’ AT SON!?

23 Carlo March 15, 2007 at 5:32 pm

Oh, and I obviously can’t tell the difference between NJN and CLE.

Go Nets!

24 Boney March 15, 2007 at 8:17 pm

So far all the favorites have won, just like I assumed.

I did not like any of the lines for the early games, but I’m picking PITT (-10.5) and Eastern Kentucky (to win outright 13000 payout per 100 bet).

weeee!

25 JONESONTHENBA March 15, 2007 at 8:43 pm

or $100 loss per $100 bet

26 Hersey March 16, 2007 at 7:31 am

You guys are cold. You dogged me in your blog. Now I’m forced to root for Boozer to drop 40 on the Cavs then pop his jersey in triumph.

27 Boney March 16, 2007 at 8:17 am

Eastern Kentucky made it close early in the 2nd half..

my winners from yesterday were:
VCU
PITT
OSU

Losers:
Eastern Kentucky (I bet $500 to win $65,000.. so you can’t blame me for taking the money line)
