A thread over at LakersGround suggesting the now Lamar Odom-less Lakers tank the rest of the season got us wondering how the main tank-jobs of 2007 are faring in their quest for the #1 pick.
Celtics – have won four in a row, including a 2OT win over the Timberwolves lasterday. (Lasterday?)
Seventy-Sixers – have won four in a row, including a Sunday win over the Nets.
Grizzlies – lost four in a row. There we go – someone who knows how to get it done.
Clearly, only one of these teams really wants it. The others are banking on Al Jefferson being the real deal. Yeah, we said both of them – the Seventy-Sixers just don’t know how or why yet.
Speaking of Al Jefferson, it now appears he is indeed a real, viable potential All-Star big man, which means Paul Pierce is gonna be torn on the stay/go question this summer – much like we’re torn right now by our forced complimenting of the Boston Celtics.
Wrapping it back around to the start, let’s think about the Lakers and whether they should tank it or not. On one hand, yes. On the other, no. We choose one of them as the answer, and the answer is one of them.
You’re expecting this paragraph to be the one wherein we reveal our opinion, aren’t you?
Maybe this one?
Perhaps here is where it’ll come out. No, no, and no.
These aren’t even pragraphs – they’re sentences.
The answer is one only the Lakers themselves can answer – to look to us to do so is futile. Silly even. Our answer is “of course they shouldn’t”.

as a celtics fan, i would prefer to see them keep winning. screw the 25 percent chance of winning the top draft pick. this is much more fun.
and delonte west had 31 points yesterday (in the second half!) i predict an NBA title next year. Actually, two titles.
Lakers tanking makes absolutely no sense what so ever.
I like the sign “I heart P.. Remember Me?.. Glad you’re back” sign behind Al Jefferson in the picture… as if “P” is going to see the sign, and then recognize the person… maybe that’s why the Celtics are losing so much, because the fans keep trying to get them to remember who they are instead of playing basketball…
not a sermon, just a thought.
I like that sign too because I made it in Photoshop.
I like pizza
Why do you tease me The Cavalier?
I like your writing style. It makes me feel like I’m retarded, but that I also understand everything. But then I don’t understand everything and following lilliputian logic, that makes me less retarded. Awesome.
I thought the Lakers should have had some moment remembering the life and career of Dennis Johnson two Fridays ago. It was the first game the Cs had played after Johnson’s death and given that Johnson was an L.A. native and part of the great rivalries between the two franchises in the 80s, the Lakers should have done something in his memory. If Jerry West was still part of the Lakers organization, it would have happened. Jeannie Buss is too busy getting the dog whisperer to tame her spoiled poodles; Kupchack is too busy getting hair restoration; Phil Jackson is too busy taking notes for his next kiss and tell book about the Lakers that will be published after he quits; and, Kobe is too busy making sure everyone knows he’s the main man for any class to show through and honor a great NBA player from Los Angeles.
That post seemed as if half way through writing it, you paused for a moment and took a giant bong hit or something. I can’t even believe you actually pulled ending a sentence with “to look to us to do so is futile.”. Well done sir. That and separation from typical reality exhibited by basketball blog writing in the last 5 paragraph/ sentences was something even FreeDarko would be as amazed with as Burgundy was with the cheese-wheel eating dog. Well done sir. Well done.
Helmsdeep – I’ve used that as a random username before too…very strange…and randomly a funny moniker.
Celtics plus Oden equals 2008 Championship
