(The Cavalier is on an extended leave of absence. The following was not written by him, although that’s neither here nor there.)
Let’s imagine for a moment that naming children after him isn’t enough to get Kevin Durant to stay at Texas and he declares for the draft. And say, instead of landing in Boston like a some people pray for, he gets drafted by Memphis.
Not only would I be incredibly pleased by the fact that Boston got screwed over (Note- I hate Boston fans. Oh, boo hoo the Red Sox didn’t win a World Series since 1918, your city had Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Tom Brady. Cleveland teams don’t just lose, our losses get names like The Shot, The Drive and The Mesa and they get edited into wins to sell sports drinks. Check out the names of some of the Cleveland blogs- The Disappointment Zone, God Hates Cleveland Sports, Wait til Next Year, Again and Erik Cassano’s Weblog. We’ll see your Red Sox and raise you our football and basketball teams PLUS economic devastation and a flaming river) but I’ll be really interested to see if Durant and Memphis receive the same type of coverage that LeBron and Cleveland did.
The constant speculation that LeBron is going to bolt for a large market has bugged me for quite some time. And if Durant goes to Boston it’s no big deal. He’s on the East Coast, he’ll be crowned The Next Great Celtic and no one will think anything more of it.
But Memphis? There’s no way he’ll be able to reach his potential in the land of Elvis, right? Isiah Thomas will be hatching secret plans to woo Durant to the Big Apple.
As for LeBron, look, he’s got an All-Star Game MVP and a decent playoff run under his belt and he’s already everywhere. Hell, this past week alone he’s had Warren Buffett at a game, announced he’ll be co-hosting the ESPYs with Jimmy Kimmel (btw- I can’t imagine them pulling it off) and bought a bike company. He’s got two new(ish) commercials (that were negotiated by his friend’s company) in addition to all of his other advertisements. And people want this guy in a big market? Are you kidding?
Basketball should come first, right? I’d rather see him hit 75% of his freebies instead of sharing a stage with Jimmy Kimmel.
But hopefully all of the ‘LeBron to NYC’ talk will end with the announcement of his giant house. This thing is monstrous and has “a recording studio, a two-lane bowling alley, a casino, a 26- by 63-foot theater, a sports bar, an aquarium and a barbershop.” And you know what the weird thing is? No pool or basketball court (um, that last one worries me a tad).
The house is slated to be complete by summer of 2008. Seems to me like he’s got plans to stick around a little while.

Building a home in Cleveland won’t end the speculation. But here’s the reality – if he wants to come to NYC (and he might, especially in two years if when he can opt out, if the franchise isn’t doing too well), it won’t be to the Knicks. It’ll be to the Brooklyn Nets and his business mentor Hova.
Apparently spending 2.1 million on a house just doesn’t get you the square footage that it used to.
The speculation is irritating. I know Cleveland isn’t that big, but it’s in the Northeast, equidistant from Chicago and NYC. And why isn’t there such talk about Carmelo or Dwyane?
Who cares if it’s equidistant? Cleveland is not a big NBA city… how hard is it for people to realize that?
anywho, back to my cleveland dislike –
It’s a shame CC Sabathia couldn’t wait until at least his 1st start of the regular season to get hurt… he’s going to be hurting for a bit after being hit on the hand by a line drive…
with Cliff Lee and CC out who can the TRIBE turn to? PAUL BYRD!!!!!
The Tribe will, of course, now turn to Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn.
Or possibly the veteran soft tosser Eddie Harris…He’s very Moyer-like
Hats for bats… keep bats warm
Boney, boney, boney. I’d be upset if it weren’t for my friendship with Becky on Myspace, and continued ability to read her hilarious secret blog posts. And did I mention the special photos for friends only? Have you seen those?
Sounds like somebody’s tired of hearing his Tigers picked for second place this year. Don’t worry Boney, I heard Kenny Rogers is working on some clear, nearly invisible pine tar for his thumb. You’re in good hand.
What are you being upset about though? The fact that CLE is not a big city, or the fact that Paul Byrd is going to be the Tribe’s opening day starter?
then…
Why would your upsetness carry over into beginning to try and rub something in that I couldn’t care any less about? Big deal… I’ve seen plenty of “for friends only” photos, I’m sure Becky’s (if that is her real name) don’t look any different then any other “friends only” photos (other than the fact she may be sporting a Bostjan Nachbar jersey with nothing on underneath… which would be hot, but only if it were a Carlos Delfino jersey or a Bill Laimbeer throwback…”. And to be honest, I’ve never talked directly to the chick, I’ve only talked like around and over and made vague references about accepting my “friendship”…
Anywho, I am starting a blog so I can be cool like all the other donkeys on the interweb…. I shall allow some of you assbags the opportunity to see it, just as soon as I’m able to piece together a witty post.
Who cares what the talking heads say?
Our very own The Cavalier picked the Cavaliers to win 58 games… I laughed then, and I’ll laugh when the Tigers continue to show that they’re not a fluke.
Boney, I said clearly in my first comment “Cleveland isn’t that big.” Then you turn around and act as if I said no such thing. That’s a good reason to be upset, if I wanted to be. I wasn’t dodging the issue. My point was meant that he was closer to the main media markets than he would be in many a city.
Becky doesn’t have cool Myspace anything for friends only. It was meant to be a hollow taunt. Take it easy. I don’t want to start a feud with you; I enjoyed the Boney-Fios meeting shin-dig and thought it was cool. But if you want to feud, just keep not reading what I say and flipping out over weak taunts.
and I meant it as a follow up by saying CLE is not a big NBA city, whereas you left it as not a big city…
I forgot there for a second mcbias, the only assbag on here that taunts me is TVBrain (Cavs can pull it to 2 games back tonight!!!)
A lot of people think NYC is the center of the world. LeBron is the most famous player, so he should want to be there. Even if he doesn’t. I don’t think anything ever will stop them hoping and thinking it should be true.
Tigers Shmigers. How does injuries to Indians starting pitching come up? Boney need some attention?
All right Boney, I’m ok with it then, if you meant it as an addition. My initial reaction was “What?! That’s what I just said!”, thus the taunt. Let us know, seriously, if you get a blog up. I’m sure it’d be decent.
Tigers Shmigers??? I don’t need attention, I was just adding some flair to this somewhat boring “hump” day by trying razz the Indians’ faithful a little bit… then your boy came back with a Kenny Rogers joke….
Anywho, my boys are poised for another run at the AL Pennant… is Brady Anderson still a Tribe?
Who’s Brady Anderson?
Indian’s are poised to be spoilers. BFD.
you don’t know who Brady Anderson is? you’re not a true tribe fan then…
KC is poised to be spoiler too, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.
Hey, at least CC is mixing it up this year. I’m not sure I could’ve handled another abdominal strain from him. Of course, Lee picked up the slack.
Let’s go Jeremy Sowers!
Assbag? If I knew what that was, I’d be pissed.
I don’t know if this matters at all or not, but I don’t know how worried I’d be about the lack of b-ball court and pool at his place. Across the across the street is what locals call the health and wellness center, a new-ish facility with courts, pools, medical offices and the like. I’m not saying that I know LeBron goes there or is planning on going there, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he did. He’s a local guy and enjoys being around Akron, so it would be a pretty good PR move in my opinion to be seen at the local rec center working on your moves, given its extremely close location.
oh well TVBrain, it was worth a shot… down to 3 back
Well they clinched so they should lose the rest of their games and play Detroit first round to get it over with.
Umm, baseball?
Go Diamondbacks(!)
I think it’s an awesome idea to try to build an offense around entirely unproven players!
Even though it’s 3am, I’m almost tempted to break out a post to try to name Boney’s blog for him.
btw is it me or do none of the substitute teachers know how to size down pictures?
It may or may not be an underlying conspiracy by the “Sub Machine Guns” to be ironical in our use of pictures. I’m not saying that’s what it is, but I’m also not saying that’s what it is. Possibly, more to come….
The Cavalier, now that wouldn’t be nice.
I already sorta named it… I think I’m going to go with “Life (ok how about just Sports) through the eyes of Boney…”
the web address will be simple http://www.boney.*********.com
i think it should be named… lookatmyboney.com
too late Zack K..
http://boney.wordpress.com/
What a puzzler!
Was http://www.bitterandnegative.com taken?
why would it be bitterandnegative.com?
I thought we were friends? no?
Go Pistons.
