We made a list once (last month) of the NBA players who we imagine have the most positive influence on their younger peers.
The hardest part about it was trying to figure out what the context of the word “positive” was going to be in our tabulation.
We finally settled on “instilling the traits of getting lots of whores and stuff like being lazy on the court” as being the most positive thing a vet could do for the young guys, and Trailblazers PF Zach Randolph naturally was bestowed a solid #1 ranking. (Sorry Dwight Howard – you didn’t even crack the top 300.)
Alas, this morning we’re gonna have to take him out of the top ten, because Zach is doing things like calling players-only meetings after humbling losses to Seattle.
“I told them we can’t give up, and that I’m not going to give up on you guys,” Randolph said. “I told them we have a lot to play for. I’m playing for Brandon Roy to get Rookie of the Year, I’m playing for Travis to get his contract and same for Ime, Jamaal and those guys.”
“It came from my heart,” Randolph said. “For me, it’s more than just basketball with these guys. I love these guys. They are young, and they need somebody to talk to them, and I told them that if they need someone to talk to, I’m here. But mostly, I just said that we have to stick together and we have to keep playing. Whatever the outcome is, that’s the outcome, but if we leave knowing we stuck together and played hard, that’s OK.”
This all sounds really great, and Coach Nate swears the idea didn’t come from him, despite the fact that he had a long sit-down with Zach right before the meeting was called for.
Another good (and telling) note – Jarret Jack said they all thought Zach was joking around when he told them about the meeting.
Whatever – it’s a promising sign from a very skilled player.
The Blazers are a young team with lots of talent – if a Zach Rnadolh (or Randolph – WOW that was a sweet typo – far too amazing to fix) can come forward as a true leader/star, they’ll be in a great shape in the years to come.
Add in all the whores he knows, and it’s looking like a good time on the court and off.
(Honestly, try pronouncing “Rnadolh”. We don’t even know where to start. Rr-nad-oh-l-hhh. Renad (soft e) is obviously the start, but we’re at a loss after that.)

much like DWYANE, DWWWW-WYYY-YEYNNNN-NNNNN…
Will Blalock is No. 8? That’s awesome, I bet he gets all the whorez. Especially the South Dakota ones now that he’s stationed at the D-League’s Sioux City Skyforce.
ummm where is Shavlik Randolph
Beautiful pass from Brown to Wesley who is wide….. oh it looks like the bottom of the backboard got a piece of that one.
David Wesley: Doing Baylor athletics proud.
lebron owns the mavs in the regular season… wait until he gets david stern and bennet salvatore on his side in the nba finals…
until then go mavs… lots in a row
david wesley is greatness… except for that time he killed bobby phils… but then again… thats what baylor basketball excelt at.
Wow, LeBron looked like he got hit pretty bad as he crashed into the stands. With a collision like that, Wade or Livingston would have been out TWO season.
*seasons
ugh.
He stood up and took thte game tying shot, twice. Yeah he missed. But he was a man. He’ll get ‘em next time.
Well, he’s still better than Darko.(except maybe at the stripe and 3′s)
BALL DON’T LIE!
Funny how zack k says that Cavs are going to Finals just a few days after he supported the Pistons…
That’s ok, we all know Detroit plays better when nobody respects them.
boney, im just saying the pistons dont have a young rising star that the nba wants to so desparately win a title so his rival with dwade can be legit…
will the pistons be greater than stern/refs/cavs in the playoffs? we will see…
now if were talking bball alone and not stern and salvatore… then yes… i think the pistons are going to the finals
I actually think Bennett Salvatore likes the Pistons… I know Joey Crawford does as well as the other old guy Dick Bavetta…
You know who hates the Pistons? that black referee Danny something… he always Ts up Sheed and calls ticky tack fouls… so when I see him on the court, the Pistons might as well just forfeit.
Who permitted the Pistons to become part of this discussion thread?
Well, considering the Pistons are the only eastern conference team discussed on this thread that are playing solid basketball, it’s more entertaining than listening to someone whine about how they dont want to watch, but still watch anyway…
LeBron is going to miss many key free throws this postseason, I guarantee it!
god
GO TIMBERWOLVES!
OMG BDP IWAABILWTHAATDPSWTF.
IWAABILWTHAATDPSWTF =
I was at a bar in Lakewood when that happened and about ten different people shouted WTF!
Didn’t want to ruin my fully acronymized post.
