dannyainge.jpg(The Cavalier is on an extended leave of absence. He did not write this because he is at his favorite restaurant that has all that goofy stuff on the wall and the mozzarella sticks.)

(This will also conclude my coverage of the Boston Celtics today)

When I started out today I had no idea I was going to write about the Boston Celtics. To be honest with you, I’m not even sure what the heck happened. It all seems like a blur. One moment I was sitting here wondering what to write about next…..the next moment I was saying the Celtics would win the 2008 NBA Championship.

Of course, that NBA Championship will not be won without the help of Mr. Daniel Ainge. Let’s just look at his resume for a moment (I hope you clicked that link). Let’s see what his good moves were……ok, he somehow was able to get Paul Pierce to sign a contract extension. Wait, the Celtics were able to offer more money than anyone else? Ok, I’ll try again…..He did trade a future first and second round pick to the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets respectively. I’m sure he received quite a few players in return for that one? Rajon Rondo, Brian Grant, Leon Powe and….wait there’s more! He traded the 7th overall pick in the last draft (Randy Foye) to the Trail Blazers for Bassy Telfair, Theo Ratliff and a 2008 second round pick! Hmmm…I’m still perplexed. I shall continue to search. He did exercise the extension on Al Jefferson’s contract, that is certainly a good move.

Trust me, it goes on and on like this for a couple of years. Anyone who thinks the Celtics are in a good position to be a decent team over the next couple of seasons is just wrong. That’s not even taking into account that Doc Rivers is their coach. Doc Rivers!!! If I were BYU I believe I’d rescind Ainge’s diploma for some of these moves.

Ah, enough of that. I am a fan of the NBA and I do hope that the Celtics can turn it around soon. There is nothing like watching a playoff game being played in Boston as the Boston fans get up and make some noise. I grew up at a time when Boston was dominating and while they weren’t my favorite team, I always respected their players and their organization. As one of the storied franchises in the NBA, their success only makes the NBA better as a whole. That being said, Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers are horrible and should be fired.

    “That being said…”

If you’re going to stumble through an imitation of the Cavalier today, you might as well just chop it down to “THAT SAID”.

    BDP….I don’t imitate, I procreate. Better, no?

Do you mean, such phrases are reserved for the private use of the Cavalier?

It is, afterall, such an uncommon phrase.

He did pull off an evil shenanigan in 2004-2005. He traded some useless spare parts Gary Payton for Antoine Walker, knowing Gary wasn’t going to ATL. He then promptly resigned Payton and we went on a 15 game winning streak and then crashed and burned in the first round against Indiana.

Not stellar GM work, but an evil shenanigan/crafty move I’d say. Any move that leads to the league banning the practice the next day is evil enough for me, and that’s what happened on March 5th, 2005.

    March 4 2005
    Signed guard Gary Payton.
    February 24 2005
Traded guard Gary Payton, forward Tom Gugliotta, center Michael Stewart and a first-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for forward Antoine Walker; traded guard Jiri Welsch to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a 2007 first-round pick.

Danny Ainge played for the Toronto Blue Jays before Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders made playing two sports cool. All hail Danny Ainge’s athletic prowess. Bow down.

    Jack, Jack, Jack-
you know, i don’t even particularly like danny ainge or doc rivers, but i find myself defending them when others attack, because i’m a little retarded that way.
look, i realize i don’t have much of a leg to stand on considering their record this season, but i do feel that this is a playoff team next year. sorry, but i do. i’m not delusional either. they have tons of young talent. by saying that, i don’t mean they’re great TODAY. i mean they have the necessary talent and skill to be great in the future. Also, i didn’t say they were going to win the title next year, just make the playoffs. baby steps. maybe a couple games over .500. we’ll take it.

    the roster

al jefferson - monster. enough said.
paul pierce - superstar in search of a supporting cast, sort of like kevin garnett, only without the constant trade demands, or “whining.” seriously, dude got stabbed 800 times in a night club and didn’t even ask out of town.
delonte west - nice jump shot, good basketball IQ, should be a dependable shooting guard for a starting NBA team. (note: i did not say “super star” or next “michael jordan” or “next jesus christ.”)
rajon rondo - wonderful young player. untouchable. he is 1A and Al Jefferson is 1 as far as Celtics fans are concerned. He’s already the best defensive player on the team (i know - not saying much) he’s ridiculously athletic, and he knows how to make plays for his teammates. weakness? jump shot. but its correctable.
gerald green: amazing hops, kick-ass jump shot, totally defenseless and clueless. but give him a break. the kid has three years experience playing HIGH SCHOOL basketball, and he still managed to drop 30 once or twice this year.
ryan gomes - tough, intelligent, four-year college player who could be a valuable bench player (or borderline starter) for years to come if they keep him around.
szerbiak - now HERES a guy who’s injury prone. and pretty much worthless. he needs to be traded.
    telfair - cover-your-eyes awful. he’s gone
perkins - serviceable backup center with a mean streak and a great work ethic.
allan ray - don’t knock em. he’s not bad. i see him as an off-the-bench streak shooter type, though not with the celtics
LEON POWE - has anyone mentioned him? love him. LOVE HIM. superior rebounder, decent defense, intense, crazy effort every time he takes the court. in the future - the FUTURE - he might even be a starter. nice little pickup for danny-boy, if i must say.

add durant, oden, or another high pick and you have…drum roll, please…a fringe playoff team!

so thats it. after reading that, you’re all thinking a) the celtics are the top team in the NBA and b) i’m an asshole with too much time on his hands.

Ah mr. Cobra, the old and revered tactic of baiting Celtics fans… It never fails!

In the same vein, I’d just like to add: Danny A is a worse GM than Isiah. Thank you and goodnight.

  8. 8 Jack Cobra

Don Paco…….you are correct and Dave……thanks for playing along. It’s been a fun ride today. You had to pick up that some of what I wrote was written in jest throughout the day?

  9. 9 Jeff

so will today be dedicated to the Memphis Grizzlies?

Boston should be fine as long as Ainge stays out of the way, he hires a new coach and they get Durant or Oden. Oh wait, Ainge IS there, Rivers is STILL there and they will probably trade away Al Jefferson for a draft pick at some point. It’s a long ways since the ugliest team to ever grace the court was kicking some serious ass back in the 80’s.
