Snap, Crackle, Pop…It’s all Come Down to This

With six games remaining in the regular season the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers are battling for the ever important #2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Right now the difference between having the #2 seed and the #5 seed is playing a struggling #7 seed New Jersey or playing a resurgent #4 seed Miami Heat. Let’s take a quick look at who has the advantage the last couple weeks of the regular season…..
Chicago Bulls: NJ, @TOR, NY, CHA, @WAS, and @NJ - As a Bulls fan I say…..nice! Pretty much every team they have left on the schedule has either quit (NJ, NY, CHA) or doesn’t have enough healthy players to put up much of a fight (WAS, TOR). Thus, the Bulls should go 6-0. Unfortunately, they will somehow lose at least two of these games and go 4-2. The Bulls are playing really well right now and seem to be building some momentum for the playoffs.
Cleveland Cavaliers - @WAS, @DET, NJ, ATL, @PHI, MIL - This would seem to be a fairly easy schedule if the Cavs weren’t playing like the Bobcats lately. If LeFranchise and his boys can turn it around quickly, then could go 5-1. It’s more likely that they go 3-3 though. The loss to the Celtics on Sunday and the Heat last night really hurt the Cavs chances for getting the #2 seed in the East.
By my precise calculations it looks like the Bulls will win that #2 seed and be blessed with an easier journey through the playoffs than the Cavs. I have at times been prone to use the Canadian metric system to calculate distances between two landmarks so I could be just a bit off. Momentum is very important in the NBA and right now the Bulls have it….and the Cavs don’t.
