In one of the most “setting yourself up to be crushed-ish” scheduling plans of 2007, FSN New England is putting together all kinds of segments and specials for the NBA Draft Lottery next week.
(If you’re not aware, the Celtics stink, and lost a bunch of gmaes on purpose in the hopes of winning this lottery and being able to draft either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.)
Beginning with the 6:30 p.m. edition of Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight, hosts Gary Tanguay and Greg Dickerson will have the latest on the lottery, including interviews with FSN color analyst Tommy Heinsohn from New Jersey and play-by-play man Mike Gorman from Waltham. Heinsohn is representing the Celtics at the NBA Lottery.
Okay, look – how much can you really say about the lottery? It’s ping-pong balls. (And yes, we’re aware Cleveland stations probably did similar things in 2003 for the LeBron lottery.)
Now…what happens if they don’t get one of the top two picks? How’s FSN gonna cover that for 3 straight hours? Delonte West trade scenarios? Tommy Heinsohn giving Tommy Points to the year 1986?
We’re really torn on this – we actually feel a little bad for Boston fans with how awful the Celtics have been. On the other hand, you all know how we typically feel about Boston fans, and if they get Oden and/or Durant*, can we really handle the obnoxiousness the next 6 months will bring?
*We’re not sold on Kevin Durant. There, we said it. He’s so skinny. We don’t trust the hype.**
**In 1997, the last time the Celtics banked the entire franchise on the lottery, we also though Tim Duncan was gonna stink. Eerie parallels.

I’m not sold on Danny Almonte, er, Greg Oden. Seems lazy. I expect him to show up to his third year in the league with a Shawn Kemp in Cleveland gut going on.
Be careful writing about the team from Boston. The fans from there are crazy….
all your 1-on-1 are belong to us
Also on Durant, he only shot like, 48-49 percent. That’s what Morrison shot and he came to the NBA and shot 37 or something. To me it’s not so much the skinny as the jumper.
Oden’s a no-brainer at 1.
What clown wrote this article? No matter what pick the Celtics get they will still be able to air a segment on it.. Celtics fans have been waiting a while to see what the next step is for their franchise. Whether it is Oden/Durant or another pick that hopefully we trade for star veterans, it will still be interesting to see. Also, the fact that you accuse the Celtics of losing games on purpose is ridiculous. If we are going to talk about that, then lets bring up the Grizzlies or the Bucks. If you watched any celtics games down the stretch, you would have seen that the effort was there, but the talent wasnt.
“…we also though Tim Duncan was gonna stink..”
You must have been the only person in the world who thought that. Wait, you like talking in plural form right? I mean, you must have been the only PEOPLE in the world who thought that.
Boston will probally still be a few year away from a nba title
Dear Cavs,
If you want to follow the Pistons script and win on the road -by trying- I’m okay with that.
I really hope Boston gets the 3rd pick. I will laugh.
haha, he called this an “article”.
The Celtics are a joke. Bring back KC Jones!
Really??? The C’s lost games on purpose? Come on man, the season was over for the team. If you’re the coach, do you try to win with vets (who are still ailing from injuries) or put the kids in and see what they can do if you’re in a “no-win” situation? Think logically. Doc did the right thing, and it wasn’t losing on purpose…it was giving our youth a chance to develop (or see if they should be on next year’s squad, or trying to bump their trade value, whatever), something all the Jim O’Brien lovers wouldn’t have seen happen (even with PP missing as many games as he did).
