Quick – scramble for an excuse, Pistons fans.
It was Chaunc…no, he had 23.
Ooh! Tay was off…wait. He had 15.
Rip! No…19.
What about Rasheed – he managed to mentally take himself out in the 4th, but do they really want to lay all blame there?
Hmmm…it seems the Cleveland Cavaliers simply beat the one-time Lasers again to tie up the Eastern Conference Finals at 2-2. Not only that, but if it weren’t for the traditional 3rd quarter collapse by CLE, this thing wouldn’t have been close.
Quick quote from DetroitBadBoys’ pregame post:
With Larry Hughes out, rookie Daniel Gibson should be Cleveland’s starting point guard tonight. “Bold†prediction of the night: forget what you’ve seen from Gibson in spot duty so far this series, Chauncey Billups can and will exploit the rookie to make everyone forget about his first three games.
Common misconception among the media and non-CLE fans about Hughes there.
Believe us, nobody who’s a Cavs fan was sorry to see the man on limited duty. In fact, he single-handedly launched us (to the tune of 0-3) into our aforementioned 3rd quarter malaise.
We’ll have more in the morning, but wanted to get something up.
PS – Daniel Gibson is having his Tayshaun Prince moment. And we love that cocky grin he wears – he actually looks like he’s having fun.

Let me begin this by saying Sheed is a child.
Lindsey Hunter is brave and kind.
Did you hear Drew Gooden talking to the crowd? The local radio guy asked him what he says when he shoots foul shots, and he said “Make it rain!” Drew alos told the crowd he loved them to death, and finished his little interview with a scream, Howard Dean style. Please please please someone have the video of this; it sounded hilarious over the radio.
All this said, though, I still have doubts that the Cavs can win this series. We’re basically asking Sasha Pavlovic and Daniel Gibson to outscore Richard Hamilton and Chauncey Billups. That makes me nervous.
However, I would add that Detroit’s tired legs are showing! Perhaps the reason the Pistons come out so strong at the beginning of games and in the 3rd quarter because they get a chance to rest? It kind of makes sense to me.
Scratch that. Ira Newble is brave and kind. And the Global Icon is a douche.
If it weren’t for the third quarter collapses this series would be over. The Cavs have ouplayed them in every game this series. I’m no longer willing to say that the Pistons are better than the Cavs. They may still win the series, but they appear to be fairly evenly matched. And not to look ahead, but guess who else the Cavs match up well with?
Can I get a DY-NO-MITE! for D. Gibson?
Chauncey still sucked- he scored, but had more TO’s than assists again, and played like a bitch in the fourth. I thought this was the big experience that was gonna take the world by storm! Nope.
Reggie Miller insists that there is a rivalry brewing between these two teams. Kenny & Charles laughed him off the stage when he said it, but he’s half-right. A rivalry implies that the teams in question have mutual respect for one another’s game. Cleveland obviously respects Deee-TROIT basketball, they have copied their system down to the retarded PA announcer that won’t shut up. The Cavs have played hard and gotten the most out of their match-ups in these games. The Pistons, on the other hand, clearly have zero respect for the Cavs and have been looking past them from the beginning of the series. They learned absolutely nothing from last year. Dicks. Now it’s a series and the Cavs have momentum.
Cavs in six. DY-NO-MITE!!!
jcm, I really want to jump all over that storyline with the Spurs after Game 5. Great point, and something I haven’t heard mention of this yet. For whatever reason, the Cavs match up very well against the Spurs, and have for the last 2-3 years.
Another storyline: I say we see one fight in this series. These teams don’t like each other. Ron Harper, Detroit assistant coach, was saying before the series that the Pistons hate Cleveland. I expect the Pistons to try to clothesline Daniel Gibson at least once in Detroit to slow him down. It’ll be interesting to see the Cavs response.
We already saw the Pistons’ response to a hard foul:
Rasheed’s little headband-throwing heeny. I lol’ed.
All right, time to get some sleep. I blogged about the game on my site and then went to check detroitbadboys, needforsheed, and mindofboney for updates…and none of them had any updates! If I were a Detroit fan, I’d be optimistic about this series because Chauncey, Rip, and Tayshaun finally had somewhat decent games, and Rasheed usually rebounds ok after a meltdown. But apparently the D blogs aren’t quite so optimistic…
jcm- you’re right- Cavs/Spurs, an ugly match up that no Spurs fan should want. Too much too think about just yet, but I’m gonna think about it anyway since the Cavs will win the current series in six.
I must say, it is very liberating having no credibility to lose when one makes predictions!
Chauncey Billups said the loss was due to the sweat on the floor. Also, he said the Pistons didn’t really lose.
No excuses! Floorsweat is awesome off the bench, really brings the energy.
Sportsline.com’s Gregg Doyel is onboard the bandwagon.
I’m not as optimistic as all y’all, but this is damned exciting.
C’mon Cavs. Gotta make it happen.
What did Sheed say to Gooden? I’ve never seen Drew that fired-up/playing physical post defense.
Sheed’s jersey landing on that guy’s head postgame – when they were in the tunnel – was hilarious.
He said, “Hey Drew- I got your nose! Honk!” And then he did that thing where you poke your thumb out of your clenched fist so it looks like you’ve got Drew Gooden’s nose. Drew said “GIMME BACK MY NOSE!!!” and tackled him. It was ON.
Boy, did that ploy ever backfire.
i still say detroit in 5
I think it was, “Hey Drew – I got your ducktail!” That thing is Gooden’s pride and joy.
MCB – they DID clothesline him…remember Webber’s T?
Great game all around – even if I am a die-hard Cavs fan.
Cavs in 4
