Excellent Series Comes to an End this Weekend

At some point this weekend, either tonight or Sunday, the Suns/Spurs series will come to an end. That much we know. What we don’t know is how it will end, who will win, how they will win and etc. The ‘etc.’ is in there because based on how this series has gone so far, anything can happen. Following are my reasons for truly enjoying this series.
In a pure basketball sense, this has been one of the best series in recent memory. There are two teams who know each other very well and while they respect each other, they still have a dislike for each other. Superstars have played like superstars should and role players are picking up the slack when they are called upon. Both teams are playing extremely hard on both ends of the floor and when it comes down to it……neither team deserves to lose. Yet, when one of them loses, they will probably do so with the grace that Father’s teach their Son’s about.
In an entertainment sense you have the Phoenix Suns running and gunning up and down the court. In an offense that looks like mass chaos, the ringleader somehow makes every move seem methodical. The Spurs have their offenses and defenses down to a science. Each move by the Suns is balanced with a counter-move by the Spurs and at times the Spurs are making the initial move and awaiting the Suns reaction. It’s really great to watch.
The series has also had controversy, as everyone knows. We’ve had Bruce Bowen and his antics…..we’ve had Steve Nash/Raja Bell and their underlying antics….and we’ve had players suspended for key games of this series…..we have one of the greatest clutch shooters in playoff history sitting out Game 6. Still, I’m guessing there could be more on the way.
This series has shown some of what is good with the NBA and some of what is bad with the NBA. You can complain about David Stern and you can complain about the referee’s, but what you can’t complain about is the effort that these teams are playing with and the level they are playing at right now. Sit back and watch this game tonight, and, if needed, the game on Sunday as this will probably go down as one of the most interesting series in NBA History.

I really, really want to see the Suns win this series
