We’re going to skip over LeBron’s odd comments about being okay with the loss altogether, and wait to address the Draft Lottery vs Spurs/Jazz until the next post.

For now, we need to get into the season finale of Heroes, because it’s like an awesome show, and we know at least Sam from SLAM will appreciate this post.

Spoilers abound, so we’re gonna cut it here - click below to read our thoughts.

SO FREAKING CLOSE TO PERFECT.

We were so with it until the last ten minutes, when it was totally blown. (We still liked it, but it could’ve been incredible.) Here’s how we would’ve done it, and yes, this would’ve been better, no matter what you say.

Based on the future stuff, this was the last time Peter and Sylar saw and faught each other. (We know, the future is different now, but stay with us.)

That being the case, this should’ve been an all-out BATTLE. We would’ve liked to see them each absolutely exhausted, having thrown everything they have at each other, the Kirby Square in ruins, and culminating in them locked up, hands clenched with each other, and BOTH nuking up with Ted’s power.

It becomes almost blinding, and it’s clear the city is going to go - neither of them can even control it at this point, and they’re both zoned out by the rage of the battle, as well.

That’s when Hiro pops in and stabs Sylar, but Peter is still left, out of control and convulsing wildly. (Like Ted was back at the Bennet’s house - this would also explain why he doesn’t fly away - he’s basically lost complete control of his body.)

Claire is going to shoot him, as was shown, but Nathan flies in at the last minute:

Claire: What are you doing?!?
Nathan: Saving the world.

He exchanges one quick, simple look with Peter (who nods), then Nathan flies them both away. BOOM in the sky.

(We think this would’ve been more dramatic, faster, higher stakes, less explanation needed. Plus all that dialogue about love, etc with Peter/Nathan was kinda clunky and slowed down the scene.

All that stuff would be understood by the audience with a simple knowing look between two brothers who both know what needs to be done. They could totally do this with some simple pick-up shots, too - most of the footage is already there!

Also, we think the tease for the next season should’ve been more connected to what just happened, but no complaints there really. Glad to see Sylar will live on, as well. That’s all - geek moment over.)

First, I totally agree, it also seems to be inconsistent with Sylar’s character for him to simply stand there while Hiro runs at him with a sword. Secondly, and this may owe to my lack of familiarity with the script writing process, but it almost felt as if they didn’t expect to be renewed and were taken aback by the show’s popularity. It seemed as if the writers weren’t certain how to end the first season because they hadn’t planned on reaching that point. That’s pure speculation and likely 100% wrong but there you have it. The second half of the season felt as if the show was forcing the plot along. Sylar’s scenes with his mother, in particular, stick out to me as a late add.
That said (first time those words have ever been used on this site) I LOVE the show.

  2. 2 The real Hiro a.k.a. SAM

It was a little cheesy, but overall the season was enjoyable. I agree they really should have made it an all-out Peter vs. Sylar war. The whole season was building to that, Sylar stealing powers and Peter borrowing them. It was good vs. evil at the very best. Kind of like libraries vs. book stores if you will.

It’s nice to see you finally putting your comic book photoshop skills to work on an actual comic… uh TV show as opposed to “basketball.”

Typically they can be shooting into March or maybe early April, although they need much more lead time for a show like Heroes than for, say, a sitcom. Last minute rewrites can be accomplished, as well. Either way, plenty of time to make changes - note that they cut back on Nikki/Jessica stuff after early returns said fans weren’t as into them as other characters.

I rewatched the first two episodes over the weekend - in the first one, Peter and Nathan’s mom had been picked up for shoplifting and tried to convince Peter he was manic-depressive. I think her storyline was rewritten majorly considering how she ended up - it was weird.

Personally I hope season two shows that the Mom, et al were right, and that blowing up NYC would actually have prevented something far worse from happening. Would make for an interesting turn of events.

I agree with both The Cavalier post and comment. I was not disappointed by the episode on the whole, but I would have been totally and utterly happyized if Peter and Sylar had engaged in the Battle Royal.

I also think it will be awesome if the world turns out totally messed up because the NYC didn’t explode. Kind of like the opposite of if Peter didn’t marry Lois (in the Family Guy). But then all the good guys would be kind of mind f’ed, and you’d have to come up with some way to make them feel like good guys again.

I only wonder if NBC won’t be a bit leery of sending out the “blowing up New York is good for the world” message, even if it’s fictional.

I am also curious if they were overly cautious about being too emulative of ‘The Watchmen’ given how similar the “ending” (salvation via explosion) of each is and since it, supposedly, will be in theaters next year.

That’s a good point about how the Petrilli boys were rolling their eyes at Mom’s new antics back in the early episodes when she turns out to be this cold, calculating, all-knowing beast.

Nikki is pretty lame. Always sigh when it gets back to that storyline. Even in the final battle she had a lame part. I guess they wanted some Ali Larter hotness and F the script.

I like your ending better, Cav. It would really clear up why Peter couldn’t control the nuclear power. Ted didn’t really seem to have that much trouble unless he was really messed up.

A really good and interesting show, and is bound to grow some more as the years go by. Can’t wait for September.
